| Gov. signs bill banning open carry of handguns
I can't believe this hadn't been banned already. Quote:
SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) — A new ban signed into law by Gov. Jerry Brown prohibiting the open carry of handguns in public could lead to an unintended proliferation of rifles and other long guns in public if gun enthusiasts continue to fight for their Second Amendment rights.
Brown signed AB144 by state Assemblyman Anthony Portantino, D-Pasadena Monday morning. The bill will make it a misdemeanor to carry an exposed and unloaded handgun in public or in vehicles. Violators could face up to a year in prison or a potential fine of $1,000 when the law takes effect Jan 1.

You couldn't pay me to live in CA. Tried it once upon a time, and hated every second of it.

Lol, well, you know. Now that California has fixed all of their other problems, they can go after those guys that are minding their own business, their only offense - that they're carrying a handgun in *gasp* plain view! DUN DUN DUNNNNNNN...

Most of you can't even comprehend how horrible it is. I can't leave because I have to much invested & my wife whole family lives here. This state loves to take care the non-paying taxes side of the population & squeeze every penny out of the other. Seven more long years 'till retirement!

I've recently been attending a citizens class put on by my local police department in an effort to get myself more updated on all of the legal changes in our society.... I've learned the word "weapon" has some far reaching definitions. When a person takes a simple old yellow wooden pencil and stabs someone else.... that pencil is considered a weapon.
Wonder when California will ban the practice of carrying a pencil because someone "feels threatened" by it?

California will start banning pencils soon as the populace gets smart enough to vote out those that consistently screw up the state.

If it wasn't for morons walking into Starbucks carrying guns and other such places, no one would have cared. Their "goal" was to strut around and show off their 2nd amendment rights, I told everyone (think I even posted it here) that all you're doing is making it more likely you're going to lose that privilege (as it's not a constitutional right to open carry) as you scare people trying to enjoy their coffee. Honestly, I think their goal was to try and be macho cool guys while they were waiting to get jobs, but that's only a hunch.
It came to pass, however, that they pissed off enough people that they lost their privileges. This should not be surprising to anyone. It is crap like this that make legitimate, honest, RESPONSIBLE gun owners look like lunatics whose rights, and I mean honest 2nd amendment rights, need to be curtailed.
If you think this makes gun owners look like bastions of civility and respect, then we just differ in that regard. But don't be surprised if you pull the same stunts and a similar backlash happens.
The politicians were responding to the citizens. There was a massive uproar over it when it was going on here. It was all over the papers and in the news. It was ill-conceived and foolish and hurts legit gun owners. They can pat themselves on the back for that.

The right to equip a firearm is explicitly defined in the second amendment. Why do you think open carry is not a right, as defined in the second amendment? Do you see any constitutional infringement here?

You try and carry a gun into a FEDERAL courthouse. An airplane. Let me know how that goes for you, pal.
I think it's ~8 states prohibit open carry in any form. Of those that allow it, nearly all have significant limitations on it. If it was a federal, constitutional RIGHT, each state wouldn't be different. In fact, they wouldn't be able to modify it at all. Like in some states you can't be in/near a school, in church, or go into government buildings. So no, it is a privilege. By the way, here are your own state's, Colorado's, restrictions on open carry, which are quite extensive: http://www.rmgo.org/gun-law-faqs/open-carry |

The only people I ever saw open carrying are the ones that got denied a CCW. And I know that some counties in CA just don't give them out, but if somebody was denied it was probably for a good reason.
I see no point in open carry, because even if a would-be robber walks in and sees a gun, sure.. .It deterred him. Now he's just going to find another place to rob so he can fill his 'quota'. I see it better off to let him try to rob the place, and foil his plans the effective way. Save our prison system some money too.

You conclude that if open carry were a constitutional right, then it would not be limited; however, since it is limited, then it follows that it cannot be a constitutional right. Such an argument is an example of the Circular Reasoning fallacy.
Let's make it simpler. What do you think, "The right to bear arms," means?
