In 1925 the Swiss army adopted the new 7.5mm caliber FM 25 light machine gun. In that time it was considered an innovative weapon. Equipped with a fire selector, it was very accurate and easy to maintain: only few second were needed to change the barrel and a lot of accessories were available for anti-aircraft of fixed-position use. Its main technical peculiarity is its "Luger-type" toggle-lock action. From a practical point of view it's a giant full auto Luger pistol. Never tested in war, it showed to be very reliable during the long years our soldiers spent training on the alps and waiting for the Nazi invasion that, thank God and the Americans, never arrived.

Every male Swiss citizen is asked to serve in the militia army from the age of 19 to 40. During that period he must keep his selective fire assault rifle (Sig STGW 90) at home and shoot it regularly according to an official training program. After the age of 40 he can be discharged from the army and he can buy is rifle for about 100 $ after it has been modified in order to avoid full-auto fire. To own any other full auto weapon a "collector license" is needed. Thank you for your interest and best regards from Southern Switzerland.

I forgot to say that Swiss children can take part in our Federal Shooting Feast and shoot the STGW 90 from the age of 8.

It's my SIG 550 (civil version of FASS 90)
This weapon is very accurate, I shot with it at 200 mètres.

In order to receive a collector license it is necessary to be without criminal records and follow a specific course given by the local police authority. After the course, one must go through a written and practical test.

Hey Swiss, when I was on a 2 month vocational training at Richterswil I joined a few times the Wädenswil shooting club. Very nice people and they let me shoot their " Obligatorische". Very impressive, their shooting skills at 300m with K31, StGw 57 and 90PE.

nice to see the machine gun displayed on an Alpenflage poncho. I've chosen that pattern for my kin to use in SHTF. My Great and Great Great Grandmothers were Blumers from Glarus Canton BTW.
