| MG 34, where's the love?
Any MG 34 fans out there? I really like the amount of machining put into these babies before mass production methods kicked in.

I would give my left nut for an MG34, MG42 or MG3. Even semi auto, i dont care, i love them both as they are the basis for the GPMGs that we love and use today....

I have had one for a number of years. You can have a complete collecting hobby just trying to accumulate all the accessories for an MG34.
I owned a MG42 back in the 80s, was not my favorite.

Ive fired an MG3 in Iraq, I liked it. Once you get used to it, you can put accurate fires on target very quickly. Just gotta be careful not to get her too hot, haha.
Not to hijack the threat but, I hear there is a yugoslavian kit thats basically an MG42 that you can buy? ... anyone know anything about that?

You are getting in on the tail end of those, the availability of those has been drying up for some time. You might find one here - subguns.com or sturmgewehr.com
The kits cannot be assembled into full auto firearms except by C7 manufacturers and once assembled cannot be sold to a non SOT buyer.

I have a TNW semi-auto MG34. I love the gun and have it set up on an AA tripod in my office. I replaced the top cover with a later production trommelhalter and a mg15 75rd doppeltrommel (saddle drum). It looks really cool. The original TNW guns had horrendous trigger pulls and mine is no exception. TNW came out with an improved trigger design that reduced the trigger pull to an acceptable level. I bought the new design trigger parts some time back but have not installed them yet. I have enough parts accumulated to build three more guns. I am a 07 manufacturer and plan on building at least one of them as full auto. The full auto build is way much easier than a semi build! I bought an original MG34 Lafette tripod at the recent Knob Creek shoot and plan on mounting the full auto on it.
I also like the MG42 and have 5 all german kits waiting patiently for me to get the time to build them.

I had the chance to fire an MG3 while on my 2nd deployment in Iraq and all I've got to say is WOW!!! The sheer volume of lead you can throw down range with that weapon is crazy. Now I've gotta admit I'm still partial to the M240G but I was sure impressed with that MG3.
Maybe I can get to digging around my hard drive and find some videos we took of that day on the range...

Don't know if you have seen this - it has been around for awhile, but depicts the rate of fire of the MG42. Though you might enjoy the perspective....
2nd link is to an MG34 in action....

I've got a near mint 34 kit - One of these days I'll re-weld it into a semi-only - I'm doing a Bren build now, I've got it in the jig & tacked up... just gotta Tig it out!

Such a great weapon. Our (USMC) 240-B's built by FNH are based off of the MG34/42/53. The bolt is an upside down BAR bolt and the rest MGXX. Great weapon, expensive to feed.

Aloha All
I finally have my TNW MG34. I have not been to the range with it yet. I envy you guys on the mainland, for your access to cheap surplus ammo UPS to your door. The only decent ammo I can find here in Hawaii is Sellier and Beloit Commercial ball, at over a buck a round.
I did pick up a MG 42 AA tripod and adaptor, but would still love to find a AA sight for the gun.
