Belt Feds

Here are some thoughts on belt feds, baised on my actual firing experience.

In a fixed position, the Browning 1919 is a hard gun to beat.
I like the cloth belt version, as the Cloth Belts are easy and fast to reload, with the belt loading machine...

IF money was no object, the MG3 in 308 [the 308 version of the MG42] would be my overall pick.

Once upon a time I was invited to a Machine Gun shoot, with a MG42. First we loaded THOUSANDS of rounds of 8MM in the non disengrating links.
THEN we proceded to shoot up a car, an icebox, and a washer and dryer, all at a distance...
That gives you a LOT of respect for the MG42, and Belt Feds in general...

Third is the Belt Fed H&K 21. Several times I have "seen" the H&K fire 500 rounds with ONE pull of the trigger...

Also the H&K 21 will take the standard H&K scope mounts.

I can say, that with a H&K 21, with scope [they have a Ballistic Cam], firing short bursts at a distance, it is SCARY ACCURATE].
Like a Belt Fed Sniper Rifle...

I would agree about the 1919 Air Cooled Browning!

I run mine in both links and belts, since my belt loader is very fussy on belts, and the needles fail to work all the time. I'm still contemplating a shuttle system for the belt loader.

I too have had a chance to shoot the MG42 a few times, and with it's faster ROF, it's devastating. One has to be sure and change barrels often if extended firing is done - pretty easy though, as long as you have a few barrels on hand. As you can see, I use the MG3 Ground Mount for my 1919's - pretty nice mount for armchair shooting (I don't get down on the ground much anymore)

Never had a chance to shoot an HK21, but I've seen them in action. Impressive, as are all HK weapons systems, IMHO.

You didn't even mention the M60 or the M2HB?

I'm a big fan of the HK 21. Only things that run faster are the MG 34 and 42.

This one runs like a raped ape

All I have to say is wow! Had no idea members had such sweet harware. If there isn't one already there should be a machine gun picture section so you guys can show off your wares. Sweet stuff!

It's really nice that 8mm is so cheap these days.

As an "Individual" not a member of any "Army", I would probably pick a H&K 21 for my "personal" use.
I would scope it, and have it sighted in properly...

[I must say I am an H&K Freek]

On several occasions I have seen H&K 21's shoot 500 rounds with ONE pull of the trigger...

For "Armies" I think the MG3 would be a better choice...

Even in a fixed position, it could almost rival the Browning
1919.

A poster said I did not mention the M2...

It, not being in a standard rifle calibre, is in a seperate catagory.

The Browning M2 50 BMG is the FINEST Heavy Calibre machine gun on the Planet.
