I have shot a few original full auto BARs over the years.
Some of them quite a bit.
If you put your "mind" back in WWII in the 1940's...

I think this is one "gun" that I would have wanted to carry.

The ones I shot a lot, I had a chance to sight them in and shoot them out to 800 yards, not only on "area" targets, but on individual people targets as well. I was suprised at their accuracy.

I am a Garand fan too, and in WWII I would feel well armed with one of them.

At ranges under 100 yards the Thompson does have a lot to recommend it as well.

Oh, and let me add, that in todays world, gun laws being what they are, I think a semi auto only BAR, is a great gun for someone that wants one. It is a piece of history and a fun gun to shoot.

Beautiful BAR and a great post! Brings back many memories for me. In the early 60's BAR's were still used by the Corps for training even though the M60 was what we used in actual combat. In the Old Corps smaller Marines were usually chosen to carry the BAR because they said larger guys tended to try and "over-control" it by pulling it back when it wanted to walk forward when firing. I think the truth was they just wanted some of us to suffer more than usual during force marches.

I grew to love and hate the old girl. Hated carrying it but loved shooting it.

Great photo of the little Sky Hawk...saved our lives more than once in country. Looked like a mosquito with a hell of a stinger when she got down in the weeds with us.

For those who have handled them a lot you know how heavy they really are, especially with the bipod.

Thanks gents for the comments. The BAR is heavy, I too usualy fire it with out the bi-pod as it makes it easier to handle. I akin the weight of the BAR to be similiar to a M249 with a 200 round drum. Funny your comment wbm about smaller Marines and the BAR, the same thing happens with out boots and the SAW.

We used to shoot Garands, BAR's and Thompsons off the fantail of the ship in Vietnam. What I remember about the BAR is that they are heavy, have a relatively low rate of fire and don't kick much due to their weight.
