Shipping NFA's to oneself?

Does anyone know if its legal to ship NFA's to oneself in care of another person? I am traveling to the SW USA and want to take some NFA firearms, but don't want to carry them on the airplane(well as baggage, but you knew that-lol), so I thought I may be able to ship them out a couples days early.

First you got to get permission from the BATF with a form 5320 --right now that takes around 5 weeks door to door. I do believe you can FAX it to them and cut that time down to 3-4 weeks. You don't need a 5320 for silencers.
When you say ship them do you mean UPS, FedX, USPS or have someone else drive them there for you?
UPS won't ship machine guns.
USPS won't ship SBRs. Due to cost of NFA stuff this is best to ship--registered/priority with insurance.
Not sure about FedX.
I know you can leave your NFA stuff with a friend as long as he/she can't access them, ie locked gun case/ safe that friend doesn't have key/combination for. Seem to reason friend could drive it to you just make sure you give him copies of form 4s and 5320.

I would like to ship the Machineguns and silencer USPS or Fedex and the SBR by UPS.
From info I have garnered, Fedex does not seem to exclude any of these firearms. Not sure if USPS would ship a Subgun as its concealable, but they may ship a "rifle length" Machinegun. You gave a good idea about a lockable case which I could ship in. I have a gun safe purchased that is at a relatives house, which I only have access to for storage.
I went on BATFE site and printed forms(5320) to fill out.
In any case the firearms are stripped down to the frames and I wanted to ship so they get to my destination just before I arrive.
