FR7 and FR8

I've had both of these Spanish surplus rifles, shot them, and liked them for what they were. Supposedly, both versions were built and pressure tested for the Spanish CETME cartridge which was externally the same as 7.62 NATO, but with much less power.

The FR7 was built on a Mauser 95 action, and is finished in the old time mauser tradition like a swiss watch.

The FR8 was built on a Mauser 98 action, and is a bit less refined, but of courser has the stronger 98 action.

The FR 8 will hold any pressures the .308 Win/7.62 NATO cartridge can produce, however there have always been rumors regarding the FR7 as not strong enough for full powered 7.62 NATO.

Awards Showcase

The FR7 & FR8 were quick ways for the Spanish to go to the 7.62NATO. The FR7 was a full length rifle & the FR8 shorter & sometimes called paratrooper version.

I don't have a FR7 but I do have a FR8 which is on a 1934 Mauser action & has a CETME barrel. The 1934 was an updraded 1898 action. I bought mine when they were first imported & bought it as a "beater" rifle. Still going strong after having it atleast 15 years.

The FR 7's I've owned were all short barreled

These were supposedly made for the Spanish police,
aka
the "Guardia Civil Carbines".

Both FR 7s and FR 8s are decent rifles, and every time I get one I enjoy the fast handling and compact form factor.

But lately,
prices at gun shows have been way too high. You can buy a well built commercial .308 short barreled rifle already drilled and tapped for a scope [ Rem 788 / Savage 110C ] for what some sellers are asking for their Spanish military surplus FR7/FR8 rifles.

Thanks for the replies , I don't feel bad paying 125.00 barrel checks little less than a one. bore is shinny. I will let you know how it shoots.

Great price for the FR 7 ...

$125 is a great deal for an FR 7.

Last month at a gun show I saw one of my FR7s up for sale from the guy I'd sold it too several years ago. He was asking $ 400 for it now.

For more info on your FR 7 check out:

I´m impresed about all your information about our Spanish rifles. Here in Spain these two guns are really cheap, I prefer the Cetme C or the mauser coruņa.
I you need any part just let me know i can find it very easily.
