Made a trip to the range yesterday to get some "trigger" time and do some "male bonding". Had a super day! Aprox 400 rounds!
Mini 14s not accurate? :?: 16 out of 20 rounds hit steel at 330 yards. (Took 3 or 4 rounds to see where I was hitting.)Irons, no scope.
45gr soft point were making "vapor trails". Tried some 69gr. HPBT. (wanted to try heavier bullets to see the difference between 55 gr. FMJ)
Heavy bullets were hitting 6" higher at 330 yds! Never tried 69s before. Much better flight path. Less drag. Need to run them over the Chrony. All in all a "Super" day! Now, back to the reloading bench!
330 yard target is about 18" steel ram. Maybe 20". Not sure. I'ts a long hike uphill to get to it. We go up about every 2 weeks to repaint it. Sometimes once a week if the larger caliber guys get to it. The front blade will cover it. I don't remember ever putting the Mini on paper. Have to put that on my list of "things to do". Do mostly paper punching with Savage bolt guns. One in .223 and one rechambered to .221 Fireball. Also got a XP 100 pistol action being converted to rifle in .221. Should be a fine shooter. Should be done in about 6 weeks. Waiting for 2 stocks to show up. One from Richards Micro- Fit for one of the Savages and the other from Boyd's for the XP. Between the Mini, 2 Savages and my M1A I get a lot of reloading and trigger time. Isn't that what it's all about? A few hand guns that don't get that much action. I guess the gas guns get more work then anything. Keeps me real busy reloading. Not that I'am complaining. The thing that gets me is that I hear so much about the Mini 14s not being accurate. Mine seems to work pretty good in the accuracy department. Will outshoot my M1A as far as accuracy. Till next time, keep you head down and your powder dry. Mike.
Mini 14 on paper at 100 yards? Can't see the small target! Front blade covers the bull. A larger target might help me get in the area a little better. Will keep working on it. Still works good at 330 yards. Did about 200 rounds yesterday without a bit of trouble. Kinda like the Energizer Bunny! (but he was arrested for battery!)
