It could be a "Guild Rifle" build by someone who had gone through the gun smithing training and this was his "Thesis" project, I agree it is WWI GEW modified into a high grade sporter rifle. It will be difficult to match a scope with your mount. Good luck and thanks for the post.

Thanks for all of the comments and help. It actually has a scope with claw mounts. I didn't picture it on the rifle because I wanted a fuller view of the receiver to help with identifying what I had. The scope is a B. Nickle and Malbourgh (spelling from memory) at I think a 4x. Scope is clear but has a piece of trash or hair on one of the side posts just out of the line of sight. Am going to try to ignor it when shooting. Knocking around the idea of finding a burgered pair of claw mounts on eBay and try to come up with a way to make bases out of them to be able to clamp another set of bases to in order to mount a small Leupold rifleman to it. Anyone heard of doing this? Anything can be made, right???

If you have the actual scope & rings your a very lucky man! So many of them get lost or was separated from the rifle if it was a GI bring-back, and a lot of them were custom work. If it were me I'd leave it alone, the most I'd do is have someone competent open up the scope to clean out the fuzz, they should redo the nitrogen, seals if needed...

IMG_0272.jpgJust to update. FINALLY got to the range today and took the Mauser to see how it would shoot. Not to shabby. Figure this maybe just over an inch with 4064 and a 180 grain Nosler BT. Also took some PPU 198 RN factory loads, they had more felt recoil than my 45/70 Sharps.

Thanks from WaM14gunner

Looks like the preferred load in my 98K Yugo. I use the Sierra 175 gr Pro Hunter bullet with 50 grs of 4064, shoots great. You have quite a find there.
