I fly my wife's Toastmaster eggbeater better than that would be chopper pilot.

Was he afraid the kid would stop and heave a flip flop at him???

Sheesh............

May God bless,
Dwight

I'd like to have seen the damage to the engine compartment.

That truck was leaking several types of fluids.

Looked like good flying to me. There's this thing called 'Vortex Ring State' that can ruin your day real quick. While helicopters can hover in place, generally its safer to keep the disc moving through the air.

Thanks for the video looks exactly my SAR48. Good shooting by the fellow pulling the trigger, iron sights to. I bet his front sight was bouncing around like crazy. Trying to hit a moving truck from a helicopter is not as easy as it looks.

Agreed. Hovering out of ground effect can be a recipe for disaster if the conditions are less than perfect. The aircraft could have been heavy, may have been an older model with a tired power plant, could have been a hot/humid day and he was power limited. There's a number of reasons to keep your speed up above ETL, in addition they probably didn't know whether or not the driver was armed. I think the pilot did the right thing.

Well, I certainly don't claim to be an Expert!
I flew in a lot of Huey's and took a shot or two, but I wasn't the Pilot.
It just looked to me like that chopper just Followed the action instead of trying to get on top of it...and the LE vehicles were in the mix long before the chopper was.
And, the 'gunner' was taking shots(as I saw it!)that were neither close nor absent any potential collateral damage, LE or Civilian!
For Me...looking at the video, which was filmed From the chopper...it just seemed like the Pilot was not...Committed to taking out the Truck for 95% of the video!
Granted---That's just MY Opinion...

Looked like he was holding his fire until the truck was in the open.

He asks the guy on the ground if he has any illegal substances in the vehicle. The guy responds no.

The unsteadiness you saw was from the hand-held camera, not the helo. Several times in the video you can see the front part of the right-side skid, as well as what I think is an external mirror, and they are steady while the video is jerking around.

Maintaining a trail position is a good tactic to make it difficult for a perp to stick an AK out the window and getting an easy shot.

Difficult to say since he doesn't hover anywhere in the video. No point in being a stationary target.
