My custom mauser

Here's my mauser. Is not finished i'd like to put a better barrel on when this one is worn out. It shoots fantastic though, actually unbelievable.

Its a Yugo 24/47 custom action in an ATI stock.

I usually shoot the nosler 200gr partition custom loaded by nosler when i want to judge accuracy. then shoot surplus for practice.

This is the first action I've had customized, i recommend you purchase a yugo m48 so you don't have to have the bolt reforged. Thought they can do the other accurizing (bolt face, etc) when its in the shop.

maybe i'll do a full review sometime and show exactly how this thing shoots. Its loads of fun.

I love my M48 as is.I left it original even though the mauser sights leave alot to be desired, still it shoots as well as I can.W/ poor sights and eyesight it will put 5rds into 2 1/2-3 MOA w NC 70's port HVY ball. Its to nice of an example to be drilling and grinding on but one in lesser condition
would be a great foundation to build on.Thing is with the M48 the action was sized specifically to the 7.92x57 so as far as I know 30-06 length cartridges are out.7.62x51
length are Ok and Id bet feed just fine.'06' length I believe youll need the 24/47's standard length action.Advertised as unissued condition it appeared to be exactly that with a perfect bore and no action/blue wear I could see.Bought it and accessories about '01' when I first saw em in SGN less $200 after all taxes + GS 10%.Fact Ive fired about 400 rds and I can now see just visible wear on bolt rails etc.Best buy I believe Ive ever made, unissued M48? the chinese military unissued SKS's @$90?

Not true!!!! 30.06= 7.62x63 and .308 is too short ( 51mm vs. 57 mm) and undersized (.308 diameter vs. .320 diameter) None of these cartriges are interchangable.

HMM? Did I say the cartridges are interchangeable? If so my post was poorly worded.Im talking about the lenght of the action, not cartridge interchangeability. The M48 action is indeed sized (action wise) to the 7.92x57
cartridge. But the M48 action is to short for the 30-06 length cartridges but wiill accept the short 7.62x51 cartridge.
The yugo 24/47 is a std lenghth mauser action and so a 30-06 length cartridge will fit in the action. Is that easier to understand?Action length!/Not cartridge interchangeability!

The OP mentioned rebarreling once his barrel was worn.So what cartridges he can rebarrel to
are dependent on action lenghth.Read up on action lenghts for different models of yugo mausers.

PS; groove diameter for the 7.92x57 is in fact .323,bore diameter is .318

Got to jump in here guys, I make a lot of money doing mauser work hence my nickname mausermark, the 24/47 and M48 are the same length, both are large ring intermediate actions. They along with the 1903, Mexican are intermediate actions. They have small ring action screw spacing, with large ring front rings. The 1903 also is even more odd in that it takes the small ring barrel in a large ring receiver. You can run 30-06 in these actions, I have done it many many times. You just need to thin the front wall of the mag box, the action will take it, just not the mag box. It will even work with commercial 06 as is, as long as you dont use milsurp style long bullets at the 3.30 or longer length. Most hunting 30-06 and even the Hornady match 168 will fit, as its under 3.28 long. If you have mauser questions please PM me, I will be happy to answer them.

Whats your opinion of the 1909 Argentine Mauser action? I have one that I'm building into a 30-06, I had a local gunsmith drill and tap it for standard type bases, when he tapped it , the threads look terrible. I'm going to re-tap it for 8-40 threads and spot face the bases for the bigger screw heads.

I stumbled upon an internet article once about trimming .30-06 casings down to be reloaded for 8x57
