| Arsenal AKS-74 Range Report
As promised my range report-
Well, all i have to say is WOW. Yes, wow.
I fired 600 rounds today at ranges from 100-600 meters. I hit everything I aimed at.
Best group of the day? 1.5 inches @ 100 Meters. Avg group? 2-3 inches. Thats from the prone supported firing position, shooting off my assault pack with soviet surplus N76 53gr FMJ with iron sights. Wolf 60gr performed the same. Honestly? I think this rifle will shoot 2 inches groups or better ALL DAY LONG. Yes. All... Day... Long. Its amazing. Im so impressed with this rifle Im not sure what to say. A kalashnikov that shoots 2 MOA? Outstanding.
At 300 meters I was on 1x1' steel every time. At 500 i was hitting a pair of cinder blocks (that i could barely see) side-by-side almost every single time. At 600 I was chipping chest sized rocks.
Im not sure what else to day about this rifle except that its money well spent. Its been a long hellacious week thanks to big brothers delay, but it was all worth it. 110%.
I did a bit of rapid fire after that, nothing crazy, but when she gets hot id say things open up to 4 or 5 MOA? maybe thats just me though. I never really layed down and took my time with this gun, i just shot it and these are the results I got. I was having a bit of trouble with the leaf sights today. Probably need more vitamin B and sleep.
This rifle comes with black synthetic furniture- but i refinished some handguards and made her look like she should.
The bullseye is 1'' across for both targets.
Im a 100% red-blooded american democracy, republic loving man- but THIS is one of the finest weapons ever made.

Wow, thats great!! And fantastic shooting on your part too!
Happy everything cleared up and your gun is in, and such a shooter too. I would not have thought.
The Arsenal crew really do make one badassed rifle then huh.
Are the rear sight graduations that accurate too?

I'm sure you could get that group tighter with a decent red dot or scope... but either way... looks like you had a great time! Good shooting!
Now... you got me thinking about grabbing one, hehehe...

Id keep the Russian surplus ammo for serious use as it should have the military load in it, which is a hollow encased nose cavity and then lead fill behind it, the nose cavity will force the round to yaw upon impact and that means it will perform better on 2 legged varmints, the Afghanis called the round poison as it was very lethal

Nice rifle. Mind explaining the difference between yours and a typical ak? I read in one of your posts a two stage style trigger. Just wondering what sets it apart from the herd. Thanks

Before I moved from Tucson a buddy picked up a Arsenal AK74 with the full stock, he's the trigger puller type not the gun plumber type, so I get too zero his rifles then turn him loose. I was quite surprised with the trigger and how accurate it was out of the box the recoil was almost nil.
I believe the Afgans called the 5.45/39 AK74 the wasp because of its nasty sting.

Mine is a factory-made russian kalashnikov. Its not a parts gun, imported and assembled from used surplus parts with a questionable number of use/rounds through the gun. No, this rifle is made on the same production line as the current russian military service rifle, made to russian military service standards. its then imported in a "saiga sporter" format (although its specially imported for Arsenal Inc. with a few special differences for ease of conversion to military format) and then reassembled by russian armorers/custom guys from Legion. Then boom- you have a bonafied factory russian military kalashnikov made at Izhmash, where Mikhail Kalashinikov himself worked. All numbers match. This gun was incredibly TIGHT when it arrived. I had to use a screw driver to get the gas tube off.
The barrel, a chrome-lined, hammer forged barrel, is rated for 35,000 rounds on FA. Im probably guessing x's that by 4 if im not going FA.
There is most definatly a HUGE difference between this rifle, and other "ak's" ive fired in the past. The proof is in the pudding. Im putting 5.45x39 surplus on target at 600 meters with IRON sights. Thats on a cardboard Etype sillouette. This gun easily performs in the 2 MOA range. It continues to surprise me with 1.5ish MOA groups on a not-so-irregular basis. If you can shoot, the sky is the limit with this rifle. I hear the SGL21 (7.62x39) shoots just as well.
PS* oh yeah, my only gripe about the rifle is the "2 stage" trigger in this gun. it sucks. ive replaced it with a G2 and will eventually put a red-star arms in her. She is most worthy of it.

Sounds good.....I like the cost of the 5.45 ammo.
Is that a flash suppressor or a muzzle break on yours?
I live in NY and the NY compliant one is just a crowned barrel, no gadget. I like your rifle. Last summer I remember reading about an AK platform that was considered top of the line, made or constructed like yours in the USA and for about 1200 bucks.....This is how I found your thread. Cannot find original posting I read. Is there another company out there that is doing the same thing as Arsenal Inc. in USA? This may have been the one I was reading about but cannot remember. Thanks and good luck.

Boom,
I think waffen werks is doing that, or something close. Pretty sure that Arsenal is the only russian factory kalashnikov available. Ive fired real AK's from all over the world, from russian, east german, chinese, iraqi, bulgarian etc. This is the finest and most accurate one ive ever touched. the bulgarians come in at a close 2nd.
That is a muzzle brake on the rifle.

Most Aks are more accurate than the shooter allows them to be. The reason why they have had trouble is their crappy rear sight and short radius.
Put a red dot on or scope and you have increased the accuracy considerably.
In fact alot of Aks are just as accurate as our beloved plain jane m14s.
One of these days I'm gonna convert a saiga. Might as well while their still $350...
