Lee Enfield (SMLE) Stock bolt head size

So I got my hands on a 95% condition No5 Mk1 Jungle Carbine and other than a few cosmetic blemishes the butt is loose in its socket on the receiver. Anyone have any idea the size screw driver (head size) that I need to get that big screw tightened down?

Thanks for the help.

Deep in the stock. Search the net via google or ask on Milsurps in the Enfield section. Those guys will know. Often there is an insert in the way. Real bugger to get it.

the insert isnt there, just the lightened screw, I mean worse comes to worse I'll switch it with a No4 screw since theyre basically the same. Its the blasted longitudenal lightening hole bored into it to reduce weight thats really make'n it a royal pain to get any purchase on to tighten it.

This is a correct lightened stock bolt for the No. 5 Jungle Carbine - notice the lightening hole down the center. You can determine the relative size of the slots to the diameter of the quarter. Hope this helps. (Anyone need this part - I would like $16.00 shipped CONUS)

You might be missing the spring washer that goes around it.

Yeah thats one of things I dont know about, not being able to get the bolt out, I dont know if the spring washer is in there. Hopefully today I'll get her down to my smith and see if he and I can get her apart.

Pull the fore end off, then you can get at the threads. Soak it really well in penetrating oil, then maybe put a touch of heat to it to loosen it. I would suggest making your own screwdriver to bridge that span, maybe a piece of flat stock ground down to fit in the hole.
Good Luck!

Already pulled the forend off and put a few drops of oil onto the end of the bolt, I'll put a drop or two more on it tonight then I'll wait till this weekend and a trip to my gunsmith to see if he can help me out. After asking the same question on a few other forums I think I might need the flat and spring washers for her. But I wont know for sure till Saturday or Sunday.
