Grenade launcher for a N0.4 Mk1 Lee-Enfield

If this isn't a good spot will a MOD move this.

I just want to know what this is.

It was found in an auctioned storage bin with a bunch of other stuff.

I'm pretty certian it is a grenade launching device, but I don't know them well enough to say which one. I'd suggest you move this to Bill Ricca's section under "Gun Professionals."

I think it's a rifle grenade launcher. Closest thing I can guess, anyway.

I did a quick internet search on a hunch and the closest thing I found were Russian sks rifle grenade mount / sighting system.

see pics here http://shootersjournal.net/sks-review-yugo-59-66a1/

It's not the same but it's very similar and I'd bet it's used to sight and shoot rifle grenades - just need to find what gun it's for - neat find!

It is indeed a launcher for the No4 MkI. In the late 80's I bought one for $25. I already had several No4 MkI rifles and now the hunt was on for some cartridges. I finally found some and they were original British in a box of 32. Funnest $8 I ever spent. The US practice grenades were plentiful and they slid right on. Fully seated on the spigot, they travelled about 300-325 yards when the rifle was propped at a 45 degree angle. I had a ball with it. Lost a few projectiles along the way, but they were cheap. While I never broke or split a stock, I was always wary of the possibility. The launch was always pretty violently impressive and always attracted attention at the range. Mike

That looks like a genuine British Manufacture, possibly Australian, - there are others made by FN for the No. 4 Enfield, those had a leather case. Yours has a real nice NOS tan canvas one with fittings similar to those enountered on the BREN spare barrel bags. If the launcher itself has what appears to be a "D" with a horizontal line running through the middle, then it is likely made by Enfield.
