| Gun show finds
Headed off to the local gunshow Saturday and was very disappointed. Hardly anything but AKs and toys for the Lejeune boots. Hardly any surplus ammo or rifles. I was about to leave when I spotted the lone dealer selling the good ol' stuff. Even he was small time. Looking at his table I first spotted a Arisaka in great condition with mum intact. Bore in great condition. Does anyone know of websites where I can get more info like DOM and other things?
Next rifle I snatched up was a No 4 Enfield, BOD 1943. Worn more than the near issue condition No 3 I have. I tried to take the bolt out to look at the bore but neither I nor the dealer could figure out how to remove the bolt. I figured that the bore couldn't be in too bad shape and dropped the $225 for it (He originally wanted $300) I took it home, figured out how to take the bolt out and checked the bore. It literally looks like the bore was worn smooth and two grooves were cut into the bore. Anyone know more about this? Was this actually produced or is it shot out?
Other than that, I scored 1,000 rds of AK/SKS Yugo ammo and 4 boxes of the new Hornady SST 7.62x39 ammo.

Yeah Sherwoods gun shows are really the dregs anymore. I havent been to one in a few years.
For the Arisaka just Google it by type and you should find alot of information.

Think thats bad I drove 114 miles each way to Tupelo Miss. for a gun show advertised on a website only to find out after I got there that the website was wrong and it is next weekend.
I drove around downtown Tupelo and found a couple of pawn stores, but nothing for me. Came back emptyhanded.

Then all of the sudden last year I was able to get good deals on surplus rifles and ammo and even snag a set of dies when I was heading out the door. Then Saturday I go into the show expecting the same or slightly better and all I see are boots slobbering over the toys and junk. Not even M1s could be had there without getting HF in the bargain.

The gun shows have been terrible here also. The last 2 were called gun shows, but they looked like army surplus. No ammo, no nothing, but a lot of old web gear. The ammo you do find is more expensive thna whats at the local shop.

One, Sherwood is a convicted felon.........BATF got him a while back for dealing without a license. He'd buy at the door then re-sell as he could. Then later he'd have all the dealers get together and decide what base prices were going to be on everything.
I worked four or five shows and I was done, I havent been to one since 2007.
If youre around the Havelock area theres a CQB match at B&R this weekend, you oughta come out and burn some powder if youre able.

If you can afford the drive come up to Richmond, VA for the gun shows at the Show Place. Lots of ammo (can't comment on the prices compared to your area) and lots of old guns, new guns, long guns and short guns - as well as hunting guns.
Last weekend I bought a GI synthetic M14 stock for $20. I saw it, walked by it while commenting to my son I should buy it since it was so cheap (but I didn't need it). A couple of rows over was another one for $125. I had to turn around and go back and buy the one for $20.
I also bought a lb. of H335 for my son (he uses it for his AR15 reloads) for $20.95 (that's cheaper than the gun stores around here).
I got 3 GI 30 round triple magazine pouches for $3 each - they looked brand new/unissued (building an AR15 for my nephew and wanted to also give him a GI web belt, 2 mag. pouches and 10 magazines to go with it).
I saw a S&W 629 with 5" barrel I'm regretting that I didn't buy. Always wanted one with a 6" barrel but I'd never seen a 5" before.
Lots of folks selling parts for M1's, M14's, Springfields, etc.
I even talked to Gus (this is the first time I ever walked by his tables and he didn't have a crowd standing around looking/talking to him). He was working a 1911 frame (it looked like).

It has gotten so that all the smaller gun shows around here aren't worth going to unless you like overpriced sporting arms and outrageously price ammo. I tend to still go for entertainment purposes but if I am actually looking for something it is best if I just wait for one of the big shows in Louisville, KY.

I like how how the table in the back right of the show was selling FAME SAC 7.62 ammo for $15 per box of 20..... NOT!!!! Checked aimsurplus.com and they were selling them for as low as $8.75 per box.

I may check out the one up in New Bern and if this one sucks I'm probably just not going to waste my $7 anymore.

After thinking about my gun show experiences I think the smaller shows attract the same dealers each time and they soon begin pricing items about the same at each show. At the bigger shows there is more competition and prices are almost always better, along with selection.

The bore on mine has shallow lands/grooves, and I don't regard as one of my best shooters.
