You asked about sights and I failed to mention there are several options The standard ladder sight on the original 29" barrel M96 starts at 200 or 300 meters. There are taller front sights to improve use of the ladder by proxy at shorter range. Some later M96 rifles and the cut-downs that became 24" barrel versions (M38 type) had a retrofitted ladder sight you can dial down to 100, IIRC. The true M38 was made during WW II by Husqvrna and usually wears the shorter rear sight. Elit and Soderin made receiver micrometer match rear sights, also. The Elit (Swiss) sight is a nice piece of work, if you can find one. I know it was legal for the 96's that were modified (stocks cut back and a higher comb added) for highpower and 300 M competition. I don't recall an aperture front sight. There was a hood available for the standard blade. It taps into a dovetail and you stake it. Robert Joseph in Austin would be about your best nearby "expert" on the Swede bolt guns. He's been shooting and fixing them about 50 years.
