BM59 6 inches low @ 25 yards

I have a BM59 that I purchased about three years ago from Reese Surplus. Love the rifle, not much felt recoil (must be the tricompensator) and it is a real handy size. The problem is, with the rear sight bottomed out it shoots about 6 inches low at 25 yards. I have to run the rear sight up about 19 clicks to hit my point of aim. Don't have the same problem with my M14, Garand or BM59 built from a Sarco kit. Should I start filing the front sight until I get on target or is it possible to replace the front sight?

That seams low but the question to me is what is it doing at 100 yards?

Contact Springfield Armory and explain what your BM 59 is doing. They can make you a new front sight.

18" barrel? If so the FS needs to be taller than a standard 22" length barrel.

Unless I didn't understand your post I would expect the rifle to shoot VERY low at 25 yards with the rear sight bottomed out(as in set at the very lowest point of it's adjustment). If 19 clicks makes the rear sight sit too high I believe you can change the front blade. Not too familiar with the BM rifles.

Id stay away from a file in any event. What I would do if you havent already is check the POI @ 100-200-300m. If memory serves Im using 13 clicks from bottomed out to get a 300m battle zero on my M1a std using the 25m military tgt.If elevation clicks are excessive perhaps a M14 front sight was inadvertantly substituted?

I'd get a PB BM59 sight from Standard Parts LLC. If it doesn't zero to your liking, then file away and save the "original" sight.
