Yes, you should refer to gun plumbers manuals. This is what I have construed:
Unlike Garand/M14 actions which are initially head spaced with a chamber reamer.....
Assuming that you have the right barrel wrench and receiver vise, or vis-a-versa....
FAL Barrel timing is corrected with shims (a/k/a timing washers - which come in a variety of thickness' or can be milled thinner until the proper timing is achieved). Headspace is corrected with a locking shoulder. The locking shoulder sits behind the bolt carrier when the bolt is locked up. Locking shoulders come in a variety of thicknesses. Before the correct locking shoulder is set, a special set of gauges are inserted into the slot on the receiver where the locking shoulder is set. Then, a bolt is head spaced with the appropriate chamber gauges to determine if the locking shoulder gauge is the correct dimension, until finally the right locking shoulder dimension dimension is determined -- with that piece of information the correct size locking shoulder is installed and should be good to go.
Every other part of an FAL can be installed relatively easily. There is a bolt disassembly tool for the extractor, and a special wrench to remove the buttstock/spring. Other than that, simple tools can do the rest.
