Surplus SLR's?

Hi Guys,

I'm just wondering if it is somewhat easy to acquire a surplus L1A1? I honestly would not know where to start looking for one.

Cheers!

A few companies make them from surplus parts kits on new semi-auto receivers. DSA makes a whole new semi-auto L1A1 from all new parts and sells it as the FAL SA58.

Your best bet is to get on DSA's waiting list for an inch receiver (join FAL file forums and DSA will sell you one for $350.00, so I was told) and you tell them that when you place your order or get on the list. They will need your CC and an FFL on hand.

As for parts....those have been drying up. SAF Lithgow, Pat Jones, died last year and who knows what will become of his extensive inventory of Aussie parts. There are a few players left, but no one has all the parts - start buying them one by one and it all adds up.

There are some few parts kits on GB, one guy is listing a PNG Papua rifle with a USA made barrel.

Issues on compliance parts 922C and all that, not something that can't be resolved. DSA will barrel the receiver for you, and you can do the rest yourself.

Happy Hunting,

711

Coonan also makes inch pattern receivers, I have a British L1A1 built on an Argentine metric receiver......kind of ironic if you sit and think about it.
There are Inch parts kits out there but then again they arent selling FAL kits for 99 dollars anymore lol

Thanks from Swamp Rat and CAVman

Find one of the early Century L1A1 sporters made on Imbel or Argie receivers, and convert it back to standard using the 6 parts to be legal. They were all inch pattern except for the magazines, they use metric mags. DSA makes a magazine that will take care of 3 parts, replace the gas piston with a Tapco, US made charge handle, and US made flashider.

These older Centuries were assembled in Canada and do not have the drunken monkey reputation of some of their later wares. These were built on primo British kits, and used to be you could pick them up for $400 or less, but lately $650 is about low end. Lowest I paid was $350 for a nice example.

Watch Gunbroker or the Fal files for sellers.

You can also find real (as in ALL original including receivers) L1A1s - During the ban Century imported some L1A1s & sold them in the original pistol grip configuration to LE & other gov agencies - Some were also sold to individual officers... These are the guns that turn up from time to time, i bought 1 from a Mecklenburg county police officer at a gun show in Charlotte for a little over $1K but several have sold on GB for well over $3K - Check the falfiles for THE BEST info on L1s, L2s & FAL in general!!!
