I remember them being advertised as," dropped once in the sand".
A tribute to the fighting spirit of the Egyptians, I suppose.

I owned a Ljungman AG 42, it was a nice rifle as I only paid $60 and sold it for $400. I never could get use to sliding the rifle's charging handle!

Was an Odd set up! The charging handle didnt look like a handle at all. Then the what I though to be the reciever cover was in fact the bolt carrier, hard to get used to!Still, seemed well built accurate and reliable if not way to long/ awkward. Not to mention obsolescent (10rd fixed mag) when introduced. If I remember my firearms history the design of the Hakim and FN 49 languished during ww2.If they had been introduced when designed the improved FAL should have been introduced at least 10 yrs earlier.

I would like to own a Hakim someday, but I am not sure when I will get around to it; on the one hand, I probably won't get a raise until sometime next month and I am short on money, but on the other hand, the prices on these things will only go up.

Of course, in the event of me owning one, I would probably be cheap and shoot that 1950's Yugoslavian 7.92X57mm surplus ammo, so I would have to field strip and thoroughly clean the weapon due to the use of corrosive ammo. This is time consuming, but I am used to it, given that I have fired a lot of corrosive surplus ammo through my SKS's and AK's.

The Rasheed would be an interesting carbine, but only 8000 of them were produced, I believe, so they must cost a pretty penny.

Has anyone encountered the vZ57 7.62x45?As I mentioned earlier a friend purchased one but ive forgotten where and exactly when but it was likely bought around late 80s early 90's.Ive heard of a few of the egyptian rasheed carbines I think the czechs were 'encouraged' by the soviets to standardize on the russian 7.62x39 So IIRC most of the czech vZ52 7.62x45s were rebarreled or rather bbls rethreaded-rechambered as I dont recall the 7.62x45 being chrome lined but I could be wrong .Long time ago!The gas system seemed to be an oddball as well with the 'gas piston' a sort of ring around the bbl itself with a pair of stamped steel op rods working on the bolt carrier/bolt with its unusual locking lug arrangement. The way it locked up should have been more accurate
locking in the front with a set of lugs versus a sort of kicker bolt that wedged itself closed.Cetainly a different operating system.Unfortunately ammunition was in very short supply and in bad shape. A good part of what ammo was found would either hangfire or fail to fire altogether. The cartridges that did work seemed to me to be to have just a bit
more power. In reality I think it only had a 10gr heavier bullet at 100-150more FPS.Likely imagination at work.
Thier CZ52 pistol was supposed to be a winner, never fired one but supposedly czech ammo was rated at some 1600fps/with an 85gr bullet. The subgun I did get to fire in the military as a familiarization with a variety of foriegn wpns. The design of the vz24-26 and power of the cartridge was impressive for a subgun.supposed to be approx 1800FPS/85gr bullet quite close to the .30 carbine.despite the hot cartridge and strange trigger design.Short -light pull was supposed to produce semi auto fire,a longer heavier pull was full auto.I couldnt tell.It was easy to get off single shots or bursts as desired so the trigger musta been right.Ahead of its time, the UZI is full of features first seen on the czech VZ 24-26.Telescoping bolt, magazine in the pistol grip, and the cartridge.A police vest from the era had little chance against the 7.62x25
