M6 bayonet question.

New guy with a bayonet question. I just picked up this unmarked M6 bayonet and am trying to determine it's origins. I understand there are known fakes out there now and the local seller, who has had this one for years, doesn't remember where he acquired it. Pretty sure the PWH scabbard is legit and the bayonet looks right internally but again, no markings on the metal in or out. Grips are numbered inside 7267652 (RH) and 7267653 (LH). The lever mechanism is stout and overall the bayonet seems well made.

Any thoughts or info appreciated!

Mike

Everything about the parts and the way it's constructed look correct.
When comparing your pictures to M6's I have, the tang peen on the pommel of your knife looks very similar to an Imperial I have. Not saying that makes them from the same source, just making that observation.
It could be that the guard just missed getting stamped and wasn't noticed, (this does happen when thousands of items get assembled), or possibly there was a deliberate reason for it not having the normal markings. Otherwise it looks like it was made by one of the M6 contractors.

Thanks for the info. I fully expected it to have some indicator of foreign manufacture or different construction that would be obvious when the handles came off but it certainly looks and feels like a quality manufactured piece. Odd that it isn't marked but I think for $50.00 I can live with it.

Many of the bayonet parts were on the surplus market 35 plus years ago. A few of the surplus parts dealers assembled unmarked bayonets from these parts. You will find unmarked M1 Garand, M1 Carbine, M16 and M14 bayonets.

Mine has the same numbers on the inside as does yours. Mine is stamped USM6 Imperial.
Other than the stampings they look exactly alike from what I can tell...

Did the Taiwanese ever make these for their M14s?
