I bought a sword. What the hell

So.... After wanting a real sword my entire life , I bought a hand forged, mid 1300's hand and a half German war sword. After trying to figure out how to tell the boss, (wife), that I bought this thing, she just rolled her eyes and didn't even say a word. I'm sure she's thinking she's married to a 14 year old and she'll just carry on.
The thing is a work of art and scary sharp. Almost afraid to wipe it down for fear of losing a digit. It's quite a thing to behold though. Heres come pics.

Get a local machinist to cut a groove in the handle so you can mount it as a bayonet.

All the guys at the range will have bayonet envy.

"Don't play with that in the house".

"Put that d@mn thing away, are you 12"?

At least that's how it works with my NCO sword.

I've seen this. Fascinating. The Viking sword basic design was apparently derived from the Roman Spatha, the longer of the two Roman swords. The shorter one being the Gladius.
I think you had to be really motivated to fight with one of these at any time in history. The smell of an opponant alone would probably kill you!

It's a beauty! Is it made from valerian steel so you can slay white walkers?

That is a gorgeous sword!! Must be a "Carolina" thing, I've been considering something in a sword....I've resisted so far, mostly because of the wife and the "eye rolls"....maybe if I tell her (like I did my M1A purchase) "I had one when I was in the Corps!!!"....but she probably won't believe that one!

ONE sword hanging on the wall looks cool at a party.
but TWO swords at a party is an invitation to DISASTER.

PS: Be VERY careful when wiping down that blade. With one of my Katanas, I noticed a thin piece of ??something?? fall off the blade when wiping it down. Didn't feel a thing ...
but that something was the tip of my finger. Just about fingerprint deep. No pain at all till later.

The thing about steel is you never have to reload. They are a thing of beauty. Nice score.

I would love to have a Viking sword as an accessory for my Husqvarna dirt bike, or Roman gladius for my Ducati.
