Finished my first Bowie

Been trying to make a few knives recently. Takes some practice to get those grinds to look good, and line up!

I think this one in 3/16 th 1095 is not bad for a beginner. Even did the heat treat myself, using coal forge and oven.

Nice.

Is there a 5 inch daily carry in the future?

good job
IMHO, more belly would be better.
I can't tell from the photo if the false edge is sharpened.

"Is there a 5 inch daily carry in the future?"

Ha! You jinxed me, Bamban - I had to test the knife somehow to get an idea that the heat treat came out OK.

And broke the tip off, doing minor prying in old wood.

After the profile was re-ground, it is just not as sexy :(

Anybody need a boot scraper???

Thanks from LausDeo

Knives are a hard thing to master. The test is to slice hanging 2" Hemp rope, chop up 2X4 and then shave hair,,,,, then bend in a vice to 45deg and not break, but return to true.

Nice,,,, is the grind a hollow or flat( Scandi) grind? Did you make the handle?

You really made that! I am impressed. Nice job. Things like knife making is a very useful skill to have. That knife looks high grade.

I like the looks of the thang, great job. I'm surprised you went with a single hilt, but that is in fact very sensible in real life situations, and when ordering custom knives have avoided getting a double one myself.

It's hard to get an idea of scale though, what is the length over all?
