Antique Mora Info?

Not designed as an edged weapon, but ...

Anybody have any insight to this Eric Frost knife that has been in my family for a long time? My research says it was made in the 1920-30 time frame. But what I can't find is any more info on what I think is a hand-carved custom handle. Looks like a goose landing on a lake. High relief.

I would suggest you take your question over to this forum:
http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/fo...Identification

Along with the pictures you've posted I would include a close up of the markings on the name side of the blade.

I collect Norwegian/Scandinavian Knives...

I just looked through a book I have:

Norsk Knivbok by Oystein Kostveit.

Judging from your very sharp photos of the knife and sheath, and looking at both the 'style' of the knife handle and blade and also the sheath, front and back...
While I am not an expert, my personal opinion is:
The Knife and Sheath are likely later than the 20's or 30's...
I am really thinking Post-War For Export.
I think someone took a lot of time and effort to carve the wooden handle...
It was/is a 'simple' knife...typical of the genre...
The Blade especially strikes me as a Commercial Blade...
Not Likely from the '20's-30's...
The Sheath is very much typical of the Post-War Era...
It Definitely Is A Keeper!
I Would Be Happy To Have It In My Collection!
I Think It Could Sell For $100+-.
So, Maybe Hang It On The Wall And Don't Use It!

(Quick Note: I have observed over the last dozen years, that many of the Norwegian/Swedish Knives on ebay, that have come out of 'estates' from the Midwest....are now being bought on ebay, by buyers from Norway...no doubt to be put in Antique Stores over there, to be bought at inflated prices by American Tourists, to be brought back to the U.S.A.!
)

Cav - very good info - thank you. My best research came from this site:

http://www.moraofsweden.se/index.php...=414&ssel=&lng.

Google has a translator, if you care.

From that site, my blade looks like a dead ringer for their 1920's picture. But this just for research info: this belonged to my long dead grandfather, so I have no desire to get rid of it. I also got a well-used IXL Bowie (Wostenholm, Sheffield) from him.

Translated Portion

The golden decades for Mora knife took place in 1920 - and 1930's. In Eric Frost was at this time 30 men employed. About twenty different knife models are forged by eight spring hammer. Exports are increasing and you'll have to add the word "Sweden" in the leaf stamp.

There were at that time 15 different manufacturers. One of them was Mr Hallam, John Anderson o Hallin who started knife making in Färnäs under the name AB Mora knives, Hallin o Co..

The firm Eriksson and Mattsson , which was started in 1912 was driven by this time on the heeling Johan Eriksson named KJ Eriksson Knife Factory. Together with the skier Anders Ström from Mora designed the company a ski binding that was a major product in the 30s and found that the driven out of råttefella-binding.

And You May Be 100% Correct!
The Only 'Caveat' Is That Many Manufacturers Have Continued The Same Designs And Models Of Both Knives And Sheaths For 100+- Years...
But, Yours Does Look Remarkeably Like The 1920 Model, And Virtually Unused! If You're comfortable that it most likely was purchased/obtained way back then...You have a Family Treasure!
The only reason I questioned it at all is that one of the most common 'mis-perceptions' regarding antiques in general is that If Grandpa had it...it must date back to_____!?
Often times if 'Grandpa' is a Collector...He adds to his collection, people give him items to add to it, etc, etc...
As a 'Blackpowder-Mountain Man' Guy...I have items in my collection that ARE Genuine Antiques...but other modern reproductions of the same that only a real expert might know the difference!
Good Luck!
