Another question for FLA guys

Thanks for your many responses to my previous thread of similar name.

New Florida gun culture question I have. From my vacation experience shooting down here with people who live down here, my impression is that there are very few members-only private gun clubs down here. Is that the case? Are they hard to join?

Up in New England the only public ranges are a handful of indoor pistol ranges that scare the crap out of me. Everything else is private for members only. In NE there is only one 600 yard range I know of (Reading, MA) and you have to know the pope to join. Plenty of 200/300 yard clubs.

Regards,
Badger

Most Florida shooting clubs I know about are fairly easy to join.
The club I belong to is easy to join and it has a public shooting range which does not require an annual membership to use.

The range I go to is "Manatee County Range" it is public but also has a membership. I am a member. It costs $100 a year for the membership. The requirements are you must be a member of the NRA and be of at least 18 years of age. Being a member gives you -

A discount on the cost to enter (if you go once a month you end up saving money)
Can attend the member only Dawn, Dusk, and night shootings
Discount on 3 gun competition

It is a great range and the only 1000 yard range I know of in Florida.

The last time I went I brought 8 of my M14's my uncle brought his and my cousin brought his. We set up next to a guy who had an M14 and as we were getting our targets up before the range went hot another member came in with his M14 and set up right next to us. The range master took one look at our area and asked "Did you guys knock off a US armory or something?"

That Range Master is a great guy. He qualified and went to Vietnam with the M14. He usually shoots at least one of my M14's before I leave. Great place to go to.

These pictures are from last year.

Thanks from BadGnus and Badger5th

Around 1992-93 I went shooting at a range with a friend at a county range in Manatee county. I don't recall there being a 1,000 yard range at that time. I'm either thinking of the wrong place, they hadn't built the 1,000 yard at that time, or both.

Badger

The Ocala range was frightening when I last was there about 4 years back. No RO and lot's of yahoos.

Manatee range has had 1000 yard since at least 1995 that was the first time I went.

I've never been to the Ocala range too far away from me. From the sounds of it I don't want to go anyway.

Manatee Range indeed has a 1000 yard Range but most people can't see that far.
