| devine reciever
I picked this pre ban up on an auction site because i had to for the price. It sat there with not bids until the end . i have an art scope that needs a home so it is on the way. M1a's are not my niche although I do have experience using a 14 from a lifetime ago. What i think i know is that this may be a early reciever manufactured in Texas, not to be confused with a devine rifle, and if it is it was probably assembled by springfield in Texas or in geneseo il right after elmer sold the company to them . I have completed the transaction and it is in the mail so i have not yet been able to disassemble it and get all the specifics as to stampings and parts origin. I know nothing about the stock, they were wood in my day. The rifle looks like it may have been refinished/modified or perhaps it is unmolested. If i had to guess i would say the former .It is just to clean for a 70s rifle. The seller said it is much more gray than the green in the photos. Will take new photos without a flash and post. Anything you guys can tell me about it first blush will be appreciated. What era is the stock from. Is it original to the rifle? Is the valve configeration ok. Should it be a just a reciever i will take it to the range and see if it will do what i need it to. If it does not it will be off to a smith for work .

The rifle has been modified from when it left Devine Tx. or illinois. The gas shut off valve appears to be modified, it looks to be missing it's screw slot. The recever and barrel appear to be painted, or coated green. The stock appears to be a heavily modified USGI fiberglass stock. lets us know what you find when you get it, it may be a great shooter. I would imagine that it has all USGI parts on it, except, of course for the receiver.

on the color. Flash & lighting can have a influence. It is a NM bbl, sights, and the gas system is done the same way mine was, because the spindle is fixed in place. Totally agree on the stock though.

The stock came as an xtra for a scout that was my first M1a. The previous owner(local memphis guy)told me he did it himself, but now I'm thinking maybe whoever did mine did yours. Yes its an LRB m25.

Kreiger 22" 1/11, TRW NOS bolt,TRW TG, USGI gas cyl, Sadlack coated piston and NM guide, It shoots better than me. I have done very well with it a couple of times. Actually haven't shot it latley. I have a couple of "new to me" scopes I want to try on it. I also have a welded gas cyl I plan to put on it. I just can't quite building others. I need to got practice with it some. I want to try it at 600 yds. I shot it at 300 once and I did better than I expected.

Turns out the reciever left the factory as a reciever ..on 6-25-1975.that is probably from genesseo il. now on to what parts are in it, where it went, and who built the rifle
TRW Bolt
SA Trigger group nicely set up
SAK P proof NM barrel. excellent..will gage/gauge (i would guess 0-1.5)
NM Rear Sight op rod.7267064...... 66113.....No maker stamp
Glass stock, military with clam butt plate
The rifle came with a 600 dollar (retail) nikon bdc 3.5-10? scope, rings, covers, a springfield 2nd or 3rd gen mount, military sling, cleaning kit, and six clips (three fives). By the time i get rid of the scope and mount i should have 1000 into the rifle.
I had hoped that the person who built the rifle would leave his mark. He did not. There are still a few places to look when i totally disassemble it and one trick after that to discover the rifles origin .
The barrel and reciever are a smooth green finnish. I would like to get it glass beaded/stripped to see the other markings on the barrel clearly and then have it refinished as close to possible to the original color of a texas reciever. Hopefully the guy who refinished it did not sand blast/polish the crap out of the metal and remove something important.
Who would you recommend to refininsh it for me.I am in upstate NY

Sometimes the person who built NM rifles stamped their initials in the stock channel somewhere.

Devine Tx receivers were not stamped with SA on them. It was stamped usually on the barrel back towards the receiver ring or down by the gas assembly. This is a Genesco rifle from what I see of it. The only thing I'd be worried about it roughly when was it made. Genesco has had some good periods and some bad periods of production.. I know, I fixed a lot of them. I'd check to see what parts are on it once it's yours. Best possible source for that info is Duff and Millar's book on the 14. I am working on one, but it won't have that info in it since while I know the 14 history very well including some of the things going on at the real Springfield, I'm a technical person so a lot of you will be getting a lot of technical info that has not been published as far as I'm aware.
