Is Elmer Ballance still in the gun business?
I used to run into him from time to time several years ago
at the gun shows in San Antonio.
Even went to his shop a couple of times in Devine ( had him build be a custom AR barrel).

A large number of "Elmer" parts started to pop up for sale about that time also. Elmer has to be approaching 70's or 80's years of age by this time. Looked like he was selling off some of the things he held back from the sale of Springfield Armory Inc. in the 1970's.

Was wondering the same thing. Bought some parts off him a few years ago when I first got into M-14's. A really gracious gentleman. Good to hear he's still around.

be M1A's, 1911 or AR15s.
I had him custom build an AR barrel for me, to my measurments back before to many were being used in compition. It's a -1 MOA rifle. Barrel is 1 inch diameter under the hand guards but the rest is standard H bar looking.
I did have some problems with the barrel but with out even blinking an eye he took it back and built me a new one.
Come to find out it was something wrong with his chamber cutter.

Elmer's definitely a colorful character. He built me a 9mm
AR upper that's really cool. I picked up some nice stocks
on a visit, it's the original SAI, and the sign is still over the driveway. It's pretty run down these days, but he's definitely
a talented guy. He makes 1911 match barrels for many folks
today and has the tools and know how to make many others.
He's been around the surplus business for a long time and still
has barrels full of all sorts of stuff at the shop. He had a wall
full of Winchester Model 52 stocks that were left over from
demilling a pile of them, it hurt just to look at them.

That's a good number. I called him a month or two ago looking for old parts, he answered and said, "I'm just here with a couple of fellers, drinking beer and cussing the government."
Nice guy. |

You will not meet a nicer man. He will take the time to answer any questions you might have. As far as the gun business, he can only make and sell parts, no receivers. This because of the trouble he got into many years ago. The ATF more or less baited him into doing something illegal.

one BIG reminder when dealing with Elmer
most people deal with 7 days in a week and 24 hours in a Day..
Elmer does NOT suscribe to this schedule, lol...
He will come through sooner or later....

Nice to know He's still with us. Here's an idea, lets have an Elmer Balance shoot at a range. Close to where he lives. |
