| Possible Devine #1,7xx?
Have any of you guys looked at this thread over on the CMP website? http://www.odcmp.org/new_forum/topic...=70104񧮴
Authentic or not? The Devine stamping kinda bugs me for some reason, that and the way "NM" is electropenciled on the barrel.

It looks authentic to me. Others in that serial number range have the engraved one line Devine marking.
I don't have a problem with the NM marking either since the NM marking seems to vary a lot on USGI barrels because of the curved surface. It is obviously an NM barrel based on the number.

| Thanks For The Input!
Many thanks to all regarding my new rifle! It also has regular sights, and no "NM" stamped anywhere but on the top of the barrel. The underside of the bolt and the hammer face have been polished IMO. I added some pics to the link posted earlier in this thread. Thanks to all who looked, Charlie.

| More Info.
Hi, gents! Here's what I've found out so far about my rifle.
Windage knob--NM--no hood
Gas cylinder--unitized(weld)
Trigger group--electro engraved, numbered to riffle
Hammer face--polished
Bolt underside--polished
Stock--glass bedded, marked "JJH" in channel, large size birch(big red one?)
Front sight--looks standard USGI
BBL--NM marked
I think I may have an early NM rifle, does anyone know I could research this? Many thanks for reading this. I have some pics, but can't post yet.
Charlie

Hi, Frank. Does your rear sight have the hooded aperture?

It does not have a hood , but it is a nm. My barrel is a stamped nm , nm rear sights . It has a standard front sight. There is some thing strange with the gas cylinder , it has been michined or turned for about a half inch where it touches the oprod. The oprod tube has been polished as well

Hi, Frank. Your rifle sounds like a NM Devine all the way. This forum is the best place to find out about these rifles I know of. Do you know much about its' history? Did you gauge the barrel yet? Mine is just over zero, maybe at .2.

Charlie, I have not checked it . Don't you have to remove the flash suppressor to check it? Did you check to see if your serial number is stamped in the barrel channel just above the JJH stamping? I have another M1a I bought in 95' from a friend who said he bought it from Lt.Col.Robert Brown. It is serial number 2316, but it does not have devine markings under the barrel. It is all NM !
The Devine that I have been writting about is serial number 1764. I will put my personal information in tonight( phone#, Email). Frank

Yes, mine's numbered to the gun, and yes I removed the suppressor. I wouldn't try it w/o the correct tool. BTW mine has a birch stock

I wonder what the polished section on the stock ferrule under the gas cylinder is for?

Charlie | It's done for match conditioning. Match modification of the stock ferrule itself is another subject but the bottom of the ferrule is lightly polished and a thin layer of grease is applied. This minimizes any friction between the stock ferrule and the bottom of the front band.
