SN 001173

Just picked up 001173 at a local gun show. Maybe the info about the rifle will be useful. 1173 is built as a National Match, Birch GI stock, Bisonite Bedding, Last four of SN electro pencil marked in barrel channel. Three Punch marks just forward of the SN in channel. Three Punch marks across flat of pistol grip. Stock sanded and seal with a Poly type coating. Butt Plate has last four of SN inside of cleaning rod trap door. Last four of SN are also electro penciled to the flat on one side of trigger guard, outside flat of trigger housing, on op rod flat under wood line. No Texas markings on barrel. Barrel is SAK - 70 NM. Flash hider was dead, did not ring when tapped but was NM modified by reaming, I replaced the with a NM USGI Flash Hider received several decades ago from a US Army Armorer that's is live. Gas cylinder screwed and glued. Sealer had broken down and both screws were lose and one had backed out. Applied loctite and torqued screws. Hand guard trimmed at rear and HG clip staked. Scratch built NM Op Rod Spring Guide Rod. Op rod barrel guide loose, re-knurled boss on barrel for guide. NM front and Rear Sights. Rifle has been shot a lot but is in excellent shape and was well taken care of. Would not have paid what i did for rifle but for the Op Rod stabilizer installed between guide and gas cylinder. I happen to have been friends to the man that dreamed up this modification and have some of his original Patent and blue print paper work for the mod. Up to now I had never seen one of these in the flesh. I'd had several talks about it with my friend and do know he and the US Army Team gave up on the design soon after using it as simpler answers to the problem of Op Rod chatter were discovered. Anyway here's some photos for your enjoyment.
