I might have found a Devine?

Stopped in a shop, and they have a M1A on consignment. It was erroneously marked as a NM, with the price to match. They know me well, so they let me check it out.

First, it is NOT a NM. Standard weight barrel, non-unitized, not bedded, etc. But, USGI Parts.

So, here's the cool part. Its a 3 digit SN, 0009xx. I called SA, but they have to look up the paper records, so I have to wait till Monday to get the history.

So, if it winds up being a Devine, what price should I try to pay for it?

Question

Forgive me for asking , but what's so special about 'Devine' rifles? I recall they were made in Texas and had all USGI parts , but so does my 1991 Genesco (all H&R) . And it shoots pretty darn good.

Devine rifles only extended in to the 2000 serial range, the rifle you are looking at would be too high to be a Devine if in the 9000 range. An early SA nevertheless, and depending on the parts makeup could be a good buy.

Actually, I fat fingered the X's; there should only be two. It is a 3 digit.

Is the barrel marked with a DEVINE or SA address?

Hello, I hope you had them put it aside or on hold for you. There are other people on this site from Colorado or close to Peyton..... and they also may be interested in owning a Devine. Get my drift... Loose lips sink ships..
You should have offered $300-400 less than they were asking (for a non NM), and put a small deposit on it.. That's how you play the game.. Tie it up until you know...

Awards Showcase

Elmer sold many stripped receivers in the Devine serial number ranges. If it does not have the address on the bottom of the barrel just in front of the gas cylinder, it was a receiver only sale and built by someone else. While these are interesting for having low serial numbers, they are not worth a premium price. A Devine marked gun will sometimes sell for about 200% of the cost of an unmarked rifle.

Thanks from Deacon
