Divine or not?

I believe I might have a Divine NM M1A, and would like some expert opinions. It does not have the stamping on the barrel, but it has the hand marking on the mag and stock to the serial number. Serial number is 2627. This is marked NM on barrel, front sight, and rear sights. Where else should it be marked NM. SAK NM barrel, but it is not stamped with the Devine stampings. I bought this from a local guy and he said that he had talked to Elmer Balance and that Elmer confirmed that it indeed was one of his guns. Here are some pics of the rifle.

Thanks for helping a new guy,
Steve

Could be one of Elmers guns. Maybe had a barrel replacement since he completed it. If you look under the forum DEVINE on here you'll find all the info you may be looking for..

Welcome to the forum, it's good to have you here. That's a fine looking rifle. I'm no expert, but from what I've read, (most of that is from Different's research, maybe he will chime in), the receiver came from Mr. Ballance's shop and may have originally had one of his marked barrels installed or may have been sold as a stripped receiver. But in either case, from my understanding, it wouldn't be called a Devine w/o the correct address on the barrel.

If you go here, you can see a record of Texas era rifles: Record of Texas M1A Rifles

We love pics here (thanks for the high resolution), so please feel free to post more of it!

If the barrel was original, it would have Texas address markings. As previously mentioned, it may have been rebarreled or it left Texas in 1974 as a bare receiver.

Thanks from Deacon

Thanks for the replies. Need to do a lot more reading.

I do not know if this is the original barrel or not.

Bob, I am about 30 miles south of you and a little inland.
