It might be 'better' to hoard cigars like you do ammo.

Even individually wrapped, they would go stale unless kept in a freezer.

Cigarette tobacco, pipe, & chewing tobacco all come from different plants.

In 2009 Obama raised the federal tax on a pack of cigarettes from $.39 to $1.01 but not sure how much this last tax increase raised it.

I was trying to figure what size nursery pots to grow my tobacco in. Couldn't readily find the answer. But then found this pic which answers my question.

Better keep this on the QT or the obamanation will outlaw or tax this too

They're going after pipe tobacco with a 775% tax increase because folks have been rolling pipe tobacco in cigarette paper and smoking it.

When are we gonna stand up and say "NO MAS"

First growing rack almost done. Ran out of screws. Made with lumber I had sitting around. Its 30"X30"X8'

It will hold 16 plants. BTW, its upside down for construction.

geek, I expect Obama will outlaw mail order pipe tobacco along with the 775% tax increase.

Only viable option I see for avoiding this Obama bullcrap is growing your own. And with tobacco you can let a plant or two over ripen each year for seeds for next year.

Those congressmen & senators as well as Obama get to buy their smokes at a tax free store so they don't care how much tax is on them.

Its going to be the Boston Tea Party but with tobacco.

By the way don't handle green tobacco when it is wet, I don't know that you will have enough to make a get sick from but you can get nicotine poisoning from it if you handle enough of it.

I got it twice working for a neighbor back in high school. Those two times rank right up there with the sickest I have ever been in a 24 hour period. For most of those two nights I stayed curled up on the bathroom floor, when I wasn't puking I was shaking uncontrollably and the room was spinning at times.

You don't waste much time getting to work, once you decide to do something!

The blue pot is one gallon which is the size nursery pots I plan on using & the rack will hold 16 of them. So will probably need 4 racks made before early spring.

Calculations
Will get 2-4oz per plant. 8oz tobacco equals one carton of cigarettes. So figuring the minimum, four plants equals one carton. Figuring one carton per week that would be 52 cartons or over 200 plants harvested.

Rack will hold 16 plants & if I can get two crops per year that would be 32 plants. Only eight cartons. So to really save money need to make 4 racks & do two crops per year.

I've two flatbed trailers & when the first plants get about 3ft tall can move them from the racks to the trailers & start the second crop.

EDIT: I think I will have to do atleast 400 plants per year to not have to buy any cigarettes or loose tobacco. Guess that is why seeds come in a 1,000 pack.

I've a two year plan to end up self sufficient with tobacco. Can't afford to run out & purchase 400 nursery pots & the potting soil for them. Have to save alittle money first. That will require my first harvest. But might be able to start the plants in plastic coffee containers.

$1.01 federal tax per pack of cigarettes. $1.34 for Florida. That is $2.35 per pack or $23.50 per carton. And just adding the county sales tax to those taxes comes out to $25.15 per carton just in tax. Purchasing a carton per week that is $1307.80 per year. Sure doesn't cost near that to get started growing your own.

And that is just figuring the taxes on the cigarettes & not the actual cost of them.

$1,300 is about what I need to finish up the electric cart.
