I just don't want to do so many plants I can't manage or handle it. Especially come harvest time. So the goal of 50 coffee containers & 50 5gal buckets is reasonable. I figure I should get a minimum of 150oz from those containers.

A nice thing about the containers is I haven't had to do any weeding. But that's one of the reasons I had chose to use containers.

And now have plants in 15 of the 5gal buckets. Curious whether the transplanting will make a difference at this late stage of growth. Been 90 days since I started them.

And have about 0.3oz of dried & cut tobacco curing. Just a sampling.

Here's my nicest looking burley plant. Not the tallest but huge leaves.

And here's my best looking orinoco.

well i have changed over to RYO
the flavor is much better. ok so i
went to rez and bought 2 lbs of tobacco.
noticed that the tobacco is cheap there
but the tubes are high $5 vs $3.49 in town.
so went to town for tubes. as for the menthol
i got it down pretty well. 1 tsp menthol crystals
to 1/2 shot of 151 and few drops of glycerin
shake well. then take about 1/2 lb of tobacco
into a plastic tub and spray and mix well. then
close tub got 2 hours or so. after that open the
tub for 2-4 hours for tobacco to dry. then it's done.
i been using a little hand tube injector is kind of
slow so i sent for a top-o-matic T2. should be here
any day now. so will take less time to make them.

i might grow some next year i did 1 year and it
did grow well. the problem is shredding tobacco
i was looking last night and came across one that
might work well.

any way think that's about it for now.

Crosscut paper shredders are suppose to work well also.

problem with a paper shredder is it cut's
to wide. i tried it for the tobacco i grew.
you will have like 1/4" squares and it don't
seem to roll well. if we were pipe smokers
then it would work well.

Looks like a modified linguine cutter but they are suppose to work excellent. Probably depends on how much you harvest & need to process at a time.

The combination of orinoco, burley, & silk leaf was way too mild by itself but combined with the pipe tobacco is fine.

lruss, don't know what makes this thing so expensive to ship but it makes it expensive to purchase. They want $14.95 S&H to me.

that shipping is high i did not look at full price.
after watching vid i do think a pasta cutter would
do it well. then for flavor turkish tobacco might make
your mild tobacco better.

Yes, grow alittle of the turkish or iranian to get the combination from mild to full flavor.

Thanks

HH,

Thanks for sharing your experience with this project, I've really enjoyed reading this thread and learning from you, your diligence in keeping it updated helps many consider this option. I imagine just contemplating vindicating oneself against the punitive taxation makes it that much sweeter to consider.

In starting to do some of my own research I found this fine article entitled, "Stave the Federal Beast" advocating growing one's own tobacco in consideration of taxation. Of course, I suppose if it actually had any real threat to the $ 125 million/day in tobacco taxes we'd find private growing outlawed rather quickly. His article entitled "Tubes of Toxic Waste" was also profitable, I had never heard of reconstituted tobacco and had no idea cigarettes consisted of what sounds very much like pressed wall board.

Pressing makes curing quicker & allows storeage in a smaller space. I really don't see it as an issue for the home grower.

Some people up north set up a small greenhouse in their basement & so can grow year round. Tobacco grows best in 80-85 degree soil.

Remember, with cigarettes you are paying about 60% just in tax.
