How do I make my slingshot band last longer?

I am talking about the surgical rubber tubes on my "Wrist rocket" type slingshots.
They seem to deteriorate a week after I install a new set, I am using surgical tubing I buy in medical supply stores, is there something better?
I keep the bulk tube I buy in zip type bags and it seem to last a longtime, Is it oxidization making it go bad?

Casey

You tee me up with a title like that and then tell us to get our mind out of the gutter.

I have to give Polack kudo's for what would seem to be right in his wheel house, but he passed.

silicone spray or lube.
corn starch will also work, just rub some on.

Or just buy the actual slingshot set up. The last one I had as a kid lasted at least two years of almost constant use. Every now and then it would break and I would just cut both ends off half an inch and slide them back over and keep going.

Do some research on the armor-all. Rumour has it that it can age rubber prematurely. Old debate from work. A guy would never use it on his tires because if some research he read, etc.

Back when a sling shot was called a wrist rocket my Dad taught us to soak the bands in glycerin.

I better change it, I already have three strikes and they don't go away.

A few years ago I purchased some extra strength tubes for a slingshot and they included a packet of 303 Aerospace Protectant. It appeared to keep the bands working for over four years. I treated the extra bands too and put them in a zip lock bag and they appear to be as new.

But the brand name for the sling shot was "writs rocket".

In college we used to make a 3 man 'funnelator' where we could launch water balloons ~75 yards or more. Too much fun... Just don't use a metal funnel. I still have a scar on my back from when a funnel broke. (Not the surgical tubing we liberated from the chem lab.) And yeah, this was 30+ years ago....

I don't know if I would use Armor-all or a petroleum based lubricant. (I guess you could...) Silicone lubricant's would probably work better.
