Battle Belt Opinions ?

Time to sell off the old ALICE gear and update to some current gear.

Looks like the first thing to purchase will be a "Battle Belt".

Any suggestions as to a model / manufacturer? Just put a photo here for reference to what I'm looking for.

Thanks,

Hobo

The ALICE has served me well. On the other hand after spending time with some "youngsters" and quietly observing their ability to position equipment in easy to reach locations I could see where the ALICE was loosing me some time when the seconds counted.

My vote is for the HSGI Suregrip Belt, or the VTAC Brokos Belt. Heard great things about both. Also a lot of people like the ATS warbelt as a budget option.

The important thing to remember is not to overload it. Think of it as a large ALICE pack; just because you have room for the couch and coffee table after putting the ottoman in, doesn't mean you should.

ALICE gear isn't a bad option to try. Some like it, some don't.

I have some mods to do to it yet, and still planning them out, but you get this jist. It's an Olongapo aoutfitters Garand Belt.

You are so right...it's all dated, un-cool, time to kick it to the curb!

Just to help you 'move on up', I'll buy the whole kit from you for $50 !!!

OP, surf around HSGI's site. Sit down first. I just went back to a belt set up, with a lot of their stuff. I shopped around and got better deals. Sappnasty sold me his Brokos belt and I really like it.

I used that set up at a course Max Velocity Tactical put on a couple weeks ago. Good gear, great course.

No reflection on you, jbrooks...
But I was just involved in the same 'Search' as in this thread...
Here's My Take:
The Original Web Gear/Belts were great, are now getting harder to find, and therefore the prices keep going UP!
Everything a guy used to be able to rummage through at their good ol' Army-Navy Surplus Store is now a (drum-roll) COLLECTIBLE!

I watched evil-bay for quite some time---the ones in good shape have become very much in demand, read $$$, the crappy ones with damage still go for what the old UN-used ones used to go for.
And...Half the sales are for Reproductions!
And Half of those are not marked as such...
And, the reviews on those suggest many of them are cheap and flimsy and won't last through one Zombie Attack!

So...I too went back to Jerry at Olangapo Outfitters!
I have custom-ordered from him in the past---and while we don't always get what we pay for in life---in terms of Olangapo, you really do!
The Quality Is Excellent!
Heck, Jerry threw in a baseball cap from OO for free!

Just my take on it...

I decided on using parts from the Safariland Spear ELCS system to make up belts/vests.
I have mixed and matched the panels to belts and shoulder harnesses of different services to keep cost down and customize to my liking.

ELCS small belt panels with ELCS H-harness.(top), ELCS vest panels on a USAF aircrew molle belt that was a supplement to their vest.

DCU ELCS small belt panel, DCU molle fighting vest belt, Tan Alice H-harness.

ELCS small belt panel, USAF aircrew molle survival belt, shoulder harness from an ILBE vest.

The bottom two set ups are the closest to the ALICE belt rig. And they are the least expensive.
You can find parts to make up a system or buy a complete set on Ebay, Unclesamsretailoutlet.com, or you may find parts at your local Army surplus store.

Just something to chew on.

Glenn

EDIT; Just wanted to throw in one more pic I had of the components separated.

Thanks from GARRARD
