I have an IOTV that somehow never made it to my clothing record, so without ballistic plates, it's fairly light and still has the Kevlar inserts. I'm currently using that for a grab and go vest. I fit 6/20 round mags on the front, plus 1/25 round mag in the socom. I could also fit more on the right side by ditching my utility/canteen pouch, but I just stick extra mags on my drop leg or in my ruck.
Gentlemen, Would you Post pictures of your rigs? It would help the rest of us figure out what configurations work and would be most practical for those of us that have not put rigs together yet. Just a thought... My poor brain is having a tough time visualizing the breakdowns I've read about here!
I have both a H harness for M14 & a separate one for AK. M14 has 4 mags & AK harness has 6 mags. But have shoulder pouches for both which carry 6 mags.
Problem is neither harness is really comfortable for in a vehicle mostly because of the buttpack. So been working with a LBV for a few years. The LBV I have worked with exclusively for wearing in a vehicle. Set up with 6+1 pistol mags & pistol in a crossdraw holster that either hand can draw it. The vest setup allows me to grab the long gun of choice & a shoulder pouch with 6 mags.
Blackhawk! molle panel that I don't know the name of which will have 6 20-round M14 mags, 3 pistols mags, a compass pouch, and a small utility pouch, and stuff like map and notebook in the kangaroo pouch. Pistol belt with drop leg holster and a pistol with one mag in, IFAK, 2 more 20-round M14 mags, a pouch for misc. essentials (chem lights, power bars, batteries, etc), and a knife. One mag in the rifle.
No pictures yet, my gear is locked up at the drill center and being used for my reserves obligation. It is in a similar configuration so I might bring it home and post a picture of it.
On the chest rig: A (barely visible); a smoke grenade pouch but my gps fits into it perfectly, B; just frag pouches but they are issued and will be replaced because M14 mag pouches are wider and take up more room or with pistol mag pouches, C; is a tourniquet placed for easy and quick access. There is also enough space for 6 mags (M16 type) currently. Although you cant really see it, there is a built in kangaroo pouch that holds map pens, a pencil, a small notebook, map w/protractor, and any other papers or cards I usually need. There is another built in pouch at the top part where the chevron is, a compass fits perfectly in here. I've had this thing since 2007 and its holding up great.
One the belt: 1) IFAK, 2) general purpose pouch that holds batteries, maybe a power bar, NVGs 3) canteen (obviously) 4) drop pouch
I have found a H harness and Marine Corps pistol belt with black buckle. I have found new Alice USGI ammo pouch 30 rounds with 2 grenade pouches on sides. The buckle is black with 2 Alice clips installed on back of pouch. I think these are for the M16 with 3 mags. but I think I remember reading on the fourm that they will work well with 2 20 round M14 mags. Will they work well for the M14 is my question as they are less than $16.00 per pouch and in stock at the same store as the belt and H harness?
