| Foodsaver VS Seal-a-Meal?
OK
I'm in the market for a Vacuum sealer, seems like FoodSaver and Seal-a-Meal are the most common. Any body got the dirt on which is the best, what model and so on? thanks for any help.

Have a foodsaver 550 which is over 12 years old and a newer foodsaver 2420 that was a present.
Both work great, one holds the roll of bagging, either way the end result is the same.
The only thing i do is add oxy absorbers to elminate any o2 trace.
Don't buy econo bagging, you could loose what you package.

When you cut a section off the roll, cut a few extra inches so you can reseal the package after removing some of the content.
sometimes i put meat in ziplock bags and insert them into foodsaver bags without closing the seal on the zippies. this way i can freeze the meat, open remove some and reseal the bag.

I have a Westin that I got at a local store on sale a few years ago for $300. I got it because it is heavy duty and will seal any thickness of plastic so I am prepared for anything. It sells at Cabelas and other places for $450-500. I'm happy with it and I can get any bags or rolls anywhere around here. Till I found the Westin I was looking at getting a food saver and the Westin at Cabelas in a demo there. The Westin crushed a soda can flat which really caught my attention otherwise I would have gone with the top of the line foodsaver.

My old Foodsaver does 8 or 11".
I like doing my own repack kits using both sizes & being able to cut to required length. I'll use 8" & bag up some rifle ammo & another 8" bag for pistol ammo. Then put both bags into an 11".
Basically do the same thing with 22 & 12 gauge.
Boxes don't work for vac seals. Corners are too sharp.

Does any body know if most vacuum sealer will seal 1 gallon size mylar bags?
I like the idea of the bag being mostly light tight. I found a place that sells them for .45 cents each.. http://store.keepfreshbags.com/101gaba.html

suggest you lookup this company, uline.
They are cheap and have mylar/aluminum sealers. Wide choice of bags and rolls.
You can't vac out a bag that does not have the internal ribbing.
I have one of their heavy duty impulse sealers, can do 6 mil bags easy.
BUILT A CLAM SHELL PRESSURE BOX IN WHICH I PUT A LOADED ALUMINUM/ MYLAR BAG AND SUPPLIES FORCING OUT THE AIR, COMPRESSED AIR TO THE OUTSIDE OF THE BAG IN THE CONTAINER FORCES OUT MOSTS OF THE AIR, ALT. OXY TABS DO THE REST. USE IMPULSE SEALER AFTER AIR IS PURGED.
