I still really am drawn to the New Zealand-made, all-Copper, not Chinese-made 'Thermette' !
Sure nobody here on the Forum is a Kiwi ???
Apparently that's the only place they are made the old way...not the cheap chinese rip-off version!

Are thermettes still available. All I could find on the net were reviews that were several years old. The website is down and could find no place selling them.

I have the big Kettle and love it. All sorts of things will fit inside the chimney to save room, if you don't mind a little soot.
A little file work on the pot supports allows my larger nesting pot to fit on top to cook more.
OPSEC? The fire may be better concealed, but the clouds of steam billowing out aren't. |

Marty | I think that's correct...
I could find no current U.S. Distributor either...it's possible that they were only importing Chinese-made copies of inferior quality as stated by several people, and eventually shut-down.
The Originals were always made in New Zealand, and apparently there is a current manufacturer there who makes one in copper, but there is no easy way to export them Today!
They look good and well-made but expensive, and no one is actively trying to market them into the U.S.
So...

But steam dissipates much faster than smoke. Smoke can be spotted much further away, since it goes higher into the atmosphere. dozier

Call me Goldilocks. Having made a return visit to see the Kelly Kettles I have physical access to, in a store where I can pick them up, I found that the big one is too big and the small one is, that's right, too small (as a former backpacker and mountaineer, I judge all such things according to their usefulness and 'packability' for a single person). The big one would be really good for a mobile group of three or more, or anyone who was stationary. The small one would be good for a strictly solo person only, so lacks versatility. Anyway, under the conditions I have set myself, I feel the need to get a medium size one. May have to go to Ireland.

I guess those Irish fishermen know their tea stuff... I've now had a chance to play with my new Kelly kettle and I have to say the performance equals and almost exceeds the hype- and certainly my expectations. Two twigs, a Bic, and a piece of newspaper and I was boiling water in just a few minutes. If you're outdoors and can't find the fuel to use one of these things, you are in a barren area indeed.
I got the mediun 1 litre size- that's perfect too.

Would you consider the 1 liter size to be good for two people? dozier

The thing boils water so fast that you could always do several fillings. The larger size would be good if you had to carry the water in it (say from the old fish pond) or if you needed twice the amt of boiling water all at once for some reason. I bought the medium as a compromise for portability. Quote:

CAVman in WYoming | I bought it during my present visit to the USA, ordered for me off Amazon by a kinsman (search on there carefully for the lowest price). I could fill it with JD but Canada Customs are bound to object upon my return. Whisky is SO much cheaper down {sob.
