RYO/MYO cigarettes

I personaly use the cheap thumb rollers that range from $5-8 each. I've had the rollers last as long as three full months.

Papers I order by the 2,400 count case at about $25 per case including shipping.
Loose filter tips I order by the 3,000 count at about $40 including shipping.

Only trouble I have sometimes is separating papers from the pack. But the rollers are plenty cheap enough to give away to people thinking of trying to make their own cigarettes.
Now, with home grown tobacco plenty cheap enough. Or mixing home grown with pipe tobacco.

Some like the injectors which is faster but not cheaper.

HH-

I always enjoy your threads. I have never used the thumb rollers, I bought about 1000 prefiltered tubes for the other type of machine ( the rammer for lack of a better term), I never enjoyed the way the cigarette smoked, too dry and pockets of air despite following the directions, i would have to pack and repack. perhaps I should switch to the thumb style

i started with 1 of the hand injectors
they work but not very well or fast.
i bought a top o matic T2 injector it
works pretty well. was $50 on ebay.
takes a little over a hour to make a
carton. i got 50 cartons of tubes for $118.then
got 20 lbs. of sparrow tobacco at $10.99 a lb
at http://www.bnbtobacco.com/brands/sparrow
a cheap place for tobacco. then i make tobacco
menthol so that add's a little but not to bad.
so anyway my smokes are costing me $9.76
a carton. + hour to make them a week so not
to bad.

One thing about injectors from tobacco forums, electric is better as it packs more consistently. Though I personally have never used any tube injector type.
One guy had been using a topomatic 2 & went to a powermatic 2 (electric) & said a world of difference.

RYO/MYO is about one thing, saving money. Easily save $2.50 per pack depending on where you live. Pack a day smoker going to save minimum $900 per year. Don't know about you, but I sure can use $900 per year. That pays my truck insurance plus property taxes. Just because of RYO/MYO. That doesn't include growing my own.

Being retired, time isn't as critical as money. So the slower thumb roller isn't an issue to me. Want to save money but not spend much time making your cigarettes, get an electric injector.

My favorite time to make cigarettes is during the news & listen to it more then watch.

I was pretty good with one of those thumb rollers when I was in college in the early 70's.

Like lruss, I ordered tobacco from bnb, enough to get free shipping. I do know for a carton of cigarettes it costs me 20 cents for papers & 27 cents for filters. When I ordered tobacco it was $11.99 with free shipping & get atleast two cartons from a pound. So that's about $6.50 per carton I'm currently making cigarettes.

But I see the tobacco I ordered is now $14.99/lb instead of the $11.99/lb I paid. So maybe I should grow some of my own. LOL

Too wet & the tobacco packs too tight & too dry & it packs too loose.

Open a fresh bag of tobacco & the moisture content should be just right.

HH-

You have convinced me to give rolling another try. I wish the 900 dollars would cover my car insurance and my property taxes but I live in NY which means I like having to spend more money than i make just to live here.

cachunk, I just looked it up & it lists NY as $4.35 per pack tax, the highest in the country. Not sure if that is NY state or NYC, but the listing is by state that I looked up. Add the $1.01 federal tax & that's $5.36 per pack & doesn't include sales tax.
If you are a pack a day smoker, that is $1,956 per year tax. And probably atleast 7% sales tax ontop of that.

cachunk, not sure which injector you were using or type of tobacco. Get one of the electric injectors as they are suppose to be more consistent in injecting the tobacco. But you do have to learn about tobacco moisture as well as experiment with packing the tobacco.
Try ordering The Good Stuff Full Flavor or Red. Its sold as pipe tobacco. A real mild pipe tobacco. In cigarettes its full flavor.

Just make sure to leave NY behind you. LOL

Even if you got one of those fancy electric injectors that cost a few hundred dollars, you'd recover that money in a very short time.

HH

Thanks from cachunk

Well, cheapest cigarettes around here that are smokeable are $37/carton. And buying the tobacco, I make a carton for under $7.

Doesn't put money in my pocket, but makes a difference how much comes out of my pocket. And that is the bottom line.
