Doomsday Preppers on National Geographic

Just saw a commercial for this new show. Some here might find it entertaining and perhaps educational. It premiers on 7 February.

I've got this feeling they're going to make the people on the show look like a bunch of hysterical idiots.

Of course they will, but, isnt it a bit strange and kinda cool, youre seeing more shows with regular folks owning firearms.

Nat Geo already has a documentary called Doomsday Preppers that came out last year, and I think they are building on that concept to make a show for it. I actually posted a link to it several months ago.

If this turns into a series I'll hope to pick up some good tips on prepping. But you do have to wonder how may real volunteers they'll get from said community...

I'm all about prepping, but saying that here is enough. I don't need The Discovery Channel special to air my info to everyone with a T.V. I'm sure there are already plenty of government folks monitoring what I say, being as we are all "suspicious" due to the fact we like guns, and have thoughts on modern day politics. I would probably enjoy the show, but I wouldn't be cataloging my setup for others to see.

Sound it out: OPSEC

No doubt this show will prompt paranoid retail activity for pre-done dehydrated meals. I just got a sample from Wise Foods in Utah. Their stuff is all pastas, pasta-based chilis, some soy protein simulated meatloaf (you might actually have to be semi-starved to go for that one...) and so on. Plus they want to charge boo-koo-bux for a week's worth of oatmeal or Red River Cereal (which is THE best, btw, if you can find it in your local area supermarkets!)

So I'll just portion that stuff out into individual 2-person breakfasts, incl freeze-dried cranberries or blueberries mixed in, with my vacuum sealer machine, and keep about 6 mo worth of that sort of food stashed away out of sight, but with a throw-away small old revolver tucked into the top of it in case Frisco the Invader Kid prompts me to open it for him under threat of a gun at my wife's head.

"Sure! Here it is, plus a little something extra for you, my friend! BAMMMM!" ala: The Shootist's opening scene. BTW, that road robber was, believe it or not, Johnny Crawford the original "rifleman's" son! His last film work!

There isn't a country in the world that could take on the United States and win. So that isn't a concern. Terrorists probably would go for coastal cities like 9-11. Not like that is going to happen to such a degree now. I'm not worried about it. Natural disasters, in the Mid-West, nah not going to happen. Collapse of infrastructure, I don't think so. Off with the power, isn't going to happen either. Some wild virus sweeping the country, maybe, but not worried about it either. So what is left? Nothing really. A bunch of whacked out people just to poke fun at.

Just like the group of people I had on my range yesterday. The end of the world types with, tac'd out AKs, pistols and shotguns. I asked them what they were exactly shooting at since they didn't have targets set up. Their answer was, "nothing they just wanted to shoot their guns." I suppose in their delusional fantasy world they were killing mass hoards of zombies. In this world however after witnessing piss poor safety practices, having a loaded 44mag staring down on me, I promptly kicked them the hell off my range. A bunch of flippin freaks. Good thing I took my blood pressure meds, because It shot up in an instant.

If anything, that is the type of people you need to protect yourself from. They're dangerious and the scariest thing of all, they can breed.

As with the case on many of these so-called 'reality' shows, the individuals and families shown on these shows are being paid for telling their stories. Maybe they're using the money to buy some more land, supplies or doing a 'bucket list' vacation before the SHTF.

As for putting out their information on the air, if they and NatGeo do it right, no one will know where they live without doing a lot of digging. First names, name changes, general locale, new paint on house, etc. can throw someone off trail quite easily if done right. If it's the govt, well that's another story if they're not on some list already!

Have to watch the first few episodes to see how NatGeo handles this subject. We might learn something or at least get some confirmation for our own readiness preparations.

Dang CAVman!!! Questions would arise PDQ regarding "separation of church and state" because of the LDS' 10-year 'recommendation' for preparedness. The ACLU and the other 'granola' types would be all over the place within seconds of a requirement like that! Especially if a firearm MUST be included! Common sense, but not in the 'Nanny state-er' mind-set.

BTW, you keep this up, I'll be sending you the bill for a keyboard replacement! At least warn people when you do something like the "Dr.P" jingle! I owe you a drink!

Thanks from GARRARD
