| Crovel Shovel, anybody get one?
Corvel Shovel
I went to a gun show a few weeks back and a survivalist guy there had about 1/2 dozen of them at his table. I got to handle one of them and wanted to get it right then and there but didn't want to hump the thing around. I went back about 20 minutes later and he was completely sold out of them! Neat stuff! Anybody got one, any reviews? I was thinking about keeping one in my Jeep.
I also like the fact that you can bash Zombies with it too! WWZ!

looks like a superior design but 100 bucks for a compact shovel seems a bit extreme...

I'm thinking of going this route instead: http://www.counciltool.com/product.a...ct&item=CT24FG
I don't need a saw blade on my shovel and any shovel will work for bashing in a skull. I'll go with what the Forest Service uses for wildland fire work. Having trained with them for that, I know they "stress test" their gear.

Greetings,
Wow, the Corvel looks awesome! With winter here, may need to pick one up for the truck. I've bought a few of these over the years: http://www.cheaperthandirt.com/GLOCK107-1.html
Every vehicle, back pack, a couple as gifts, etc.. They have come in handy many times and so far and (several years of hard use for two of them) held together no problem. The blade is quite sharp, I've used it to cut through good sized tree roots on occasion. They are also light and pack up pretty small. The first two I got came with a pouch, but the next batch did not.
Regards, Jim

Don't know the Corvel tool. I've used the same glock e-tool for over 20 years and it's good to go.
My father-in-law was a forest warden on the Olympic peninsula and always carried one of these in his truck. I got mine about eight years ago along with an extra axe and it's always in my truck. Hunt around for these. Mine is the military version. It's all OD and has a NSN. You can get them at or close to 50% off list. http://www.maxax.com/ |

I have a pretty nifty sharpened entrenching shovel from Cold Steel, modeled on the one used by Spetnaz troops I believe. I found it in a 50% discount bin in a gun shop- best buy of that year. No real saw blade but I've chopped brush with it with great success. Some calls it a shovel but I call it a sling blade....

Too much dinero for me. I went to my local Army-Navy store and picked up a nice, sturdy East German e-tool for a lot less.

Now they are like $200 if you can find them. Wish I got one when I had the chance. http://fc02.deviantart.net/fs71/i/20...90-d4bbwdm.jpg
Thanks for all of the other replies. I have consider the Glock e-tool but never got a chance to handle one. The E- German e-tool that I got from Cheaper Then Crap or Sportsman's Guide was all rusty and bent up, I sent it back. If it was in good shape, I would have kept it.

Being a latest-gadget guy, I guess I knew I'd come back to Crovel shovels... looking at the www, I'm having trouble getting some facts, like for instance how much does such a shovel weigh?

Crovel Shovel, I want one...but the price will have to come down quite a bit before I throw down. Now, that Spetsnaz tool is sweet, like a Woodsman's Pal with serious attitude! I need one of them too!

For $109, that thing better come with a mute teenager to swing it.
Old e tool with pick, if you can find one.
Looks cool though, I'll give you that.

Fox News had an interview with Tim Ralston, the inventor of the Crovel, this afternoon (2/13). Covered his segment on National Geographic's "Doomsday Preppers" that's coming up soon. Ex-SF, been into 'survival' since childhood. One thing was brought up that was odd (to me at least), seems he had a "weapons malfunction" recently that resulted in the apparent loss of his distal joint left thumb. He said the weapon "blew up" when fired! Sure would like to know the circumstances leading up to that!!!
BTW, the 'Tactical' model weights 3 pounds, while the 'Extreme' is 5.5. Nice looking tool, but not at the price! My old WW II/Korea era E-tool ($10) works just as well and all the little "extras" are already in my BoB. New accessory is a "Z-Spike" that replaces the end cap to eliminate those pesky Zombies running around during a survival incident. Only $24.50!!! Be the first on your block to have one!

I wish I had copyrighted the word "Zombie." I'd be sitting here telling my bikini clad executive assistant to type this.
