Hormel Foods Indefinite Shelf Life‏?

Just thought Id pass this along:
(from their web site)

What is the shelf life of a Hormel Foods product in an unopened can?

The processing techniques utilized by Hormel Foods makes the canned product safe for use indefinitely if the product seal remains intact, unbroken and securely attached to a can that has been well maintained. It is suggested that all canned products be stored in a cool and dry environment to keep the flavor adequately preserved. For maximum flavor it is recommended that the product be used within three years of the manufacturing date. After that period of time, the product is still safe to use however, the flavor gradually declines.

In basic one of our instructors told us about his friend eating a C-rat from Korea that they found in his grandfathers basement. The guy ate the C-rat in 2005. No illness occurred.

I've always had great faith in the survivability of Dinty Moore and other fine products, Hormel or not, in storage. Remember, while some or all of the vitamins will be gone after too long, the calories, protein, and fat will still be there and reasonably tasty. I think my record meal on a older can is around 8 years- but when I eat something that age, I make a practice of heating it to bubbling and holding it there for about 10 minutes. Better safe than botulism. Speaking of that, remember to listen for the vacuum sound when you pierce the can! Some days it seems that about 10 more unprotected muzzle blasts and I won't be able to hear those anymore, which is what may take me in the end...
