M1917 ejector problem...

I recently picked up a very nice Eddystone M1917 Enfield rifle and am very happy with it. I did notice in the pics posted in the ad that it was missing the front stacking swivel. No big deal, and as it turned out, my dealer/gunsmith had some M1917 parts and had the part I needed. Well, I'm sort of a pack rat/ hoarder/spare parts kind of guy, and he had the late style, improved ejector. So I bought that too. The original ejector had a leaf spring that was prone to breakage, so a modified ejector with a separate coil spring was designed.

Well, when I got this old "war horse" (the rifle, not me) out to the range, I found that the ejector was broken. I wasn't surprised because it is a fairly common problem with these rifles, and I had a spare at home.

Somehow I managed to break the new ejector. I thought I had it installed correctly, and when I went to insert the bolt, it went in rather hard, and must have snapped the new ejector.

Now I need to find another new style ejector...

I'd take a dremel with a cutting well and notch the broken original and see if I could get the coil spring to work with it like the new style ejector.

I fixed mine by using a spring from an ink pen. Like the previous poster said, fix it with the spring you have.
