Once bought an Enfield from a gunstore which someone had sporterized. Don't recall if it was a Mk 3 or Mk 4.
Whoever did the job was a poor gunsmith. He screwed up the front sight so that it walked during shooting. When I fired it at the range, the elevation would remain consistent, within two inches vertically. However the windage wasn't worth shit, since I had hits all across the paper target despite holding 6 o'clock on the bull for every shot. I shot it a few times, then got rid of it.
Despite that bad experience, I went and bought a Mark 5 jungle carbine, which I found quite accurate, and still own over 20 years later. It looked sporterized, yet was original all around. Mfg date 09/46, meaning it is older than I am by about a 13 months.
