I finally got a chance to briefly look one over at the gunshow this past weekend. If I were to DX the M1A in favor of a bolt gun (not a chance of this ever happening, btw), the Ruger would be at the top of my list.

Zardoz is the worst movie I ever saw. Glad you like the rifle so much. I have yet to handle one.

The movie was pretty bad, but Zed did have that cool Semi Automatic Revolver, the Webley Fosbery.

Years ago I shot one a buddy had. I still wish I had one, modified to shoot 45 ACP of course.

It's a nice looking rifle, and I'd love to try one out, but the point was for it to be a good all around rifle, right? I bet it would make a handy hunting rifle, but I don't see how it would be any better an all around rifle than a SOCOM or a Mini 14/30. Not to knock it, or Jeff Cooper, but I think his idea of the perfect "Scout" rifle isn't any better than what I would think would be a good "Scout" rifle. Seems like his name is more of a marketing ploy than anything else.

Fyi

Ruger has come out with polymer mags for the Gunsite Scout that are significantly reduced from the metal mag cost.

Not only that but they now offer a 3 round magazine, in polymer, that may be more to the liking of those using the rifle as a hunting arm. I plan to get a 3 round magazine for next year's hunting season. I used the metal 10 round magazine this year, legal where I reside, and found that I preferred less of a rudder when packing the rifle all day in rough country.

The 10 round magazine will make a good reload for me if I run in to some nefarious critters of the bipedal specimen, very likely in my hunting locality.

Shot one a month ago after an Appleseed.
We brought out my SAI Scout, an M1 and a Gunsite. Man, after shooting the two military pieces with thier meatier trigger pulls, the Ruger went off without much more than a thought!
Bolt was a little sticky, but probably just needs breaking in.

if i hadnt already bought a savage scout a few years back, this one would definitely be higher up on my "gotta have it" list. i handled one awhile back and it seemed to be a well made rifle, but i do like Ruger products. never been let down by one yet
