Can I get some feedback on the Dakota Arms M76 Tactical Long Bow in .338 Laupa? I haven't heard about this rifle until recently...looks pretty interesting.

George,
I don’t know the first thing about this rifle, but adore the 338 Lapua. Could you please relate all that you know so far?
Thanks, Chris

Thanks, Chris | I actually don't know anything about it until recently..and now, all I know of it is from that website I got the picture from. I found out about it from a gentleman that I spoke to recently here in CA that is a retired USMC Sniper that was in the first Iraq war. He tested these rifles for Dakota Arms. I have to say they sure look sweet but carries a big price tag.
This is what prompted me to ask about it. I heard the .338 Lapua round isn't too cheap neither but has great ballistics. I never shot a .338 before so I can't comment first hand.

WOW!
For $4500 you could have a completely outfitted Sako TRG 42 and maybe even a tank full of gas.
For an additional $500 you can get the original, the Accuracy International Super Magnum.
That used 338 RUM Sendero is looking better and better every day.

This is really strange. I have searched on several gun forums for the M76 and only found very little information about it.
I was able to find this online: http://www.imt.net/~mele/images/longbow1.gif http://www.snipercentral.com/longbow.htm
Looks like it was used as a sniper rifle by law enforcement and the military. I wonder why there isn't more information on it? Not too many up for sale that's for sure.

Accuracy International is in "receivership"--bankrupt as they call it in the US. It is unclear if they will be available in the future. Dakota Arms build beautiful rifles but IMHO are overpriced and the waiting period is unacceptable. Plus,.338 Lapua is over 5 bucks a shot,if you can find the ammo.

I got a chance to shoot one at 200 yards and man that thing is on the money! I was able to get a 1.25" outside to outside group Ill try to find the picture to backit up. It is a BIG $$$ item but I am sweet on one and plan to get it with in the next year (The woman has given me the green light to do so :D)
If I had the money right now (not allocated to things like auto payments) Id buy it in a heart beat!!
She has an expensive diet though.

Ive got 2 338 lapua's, a remington 700 police, and a AIAW, that I bought second hand. You can reload it alot cheaper than factory ammo, hornady makes brass . The Lapua brass is obviously much better quality, I have about 8 reloads on the 300 I have, still going strong. The longbow, Ive seen one, very expensive. My AI, I paid 3500 for from a fellow at work that wanted rid of it. Check out the remington police, or the savage, I think they now have 2 different models. If its the rifle and not the round youre interested in, good luck to you, my wife would have me executed at dawn. If I spent that much.

Obviously you're not going to be making garbage reloads for a .338 LM, there's no point...

Im around 2 to 2.50 a pop, anyway you slice it it aint a cheap rifle to shoot. If you get into it, try the Lapua lock base bullet, very accurate in both of mine. Depending on the powder used, youre runnning anywhere from 85 to over 100 grains. But its a impressive round to mess with.

I have shot a metric crap ton of .338 and I have not one thing bad to say about it. I wish someone made a belt fed MG for it.
I miss my rich uncle…. |
