I won the auction on Gun Broker for a Remington 700 A5 in 308. NIB So now I have to wait for my check to go across country and them to ship me the gun. I have read that this gun has a M24 barrel on it, and is branded "Mil Spec". I have already ordered mounts, rings, and a new Timney trigger for it. I am going to mount an Athlon 6-24 X 50 scope on it. Does anybody here have experience with this rifle. Your input would be appreciated. I will post pictures when I get the thing. I have felt them in local gun stores and they feel pretty darn good.RNGR1
http://www.gunbroker.com/Item/633467716 Or you can google Remington 700 A5 in 308. The stock is a Bell and Carlson with aluminium pillar bedding. The barrel is a M24 stainless 24 in heavy barrel. It really feels nice and shoots pretty well. There are even some YouTube videos on the gun.
That appears to be the previous generation of Remington's 700 5R Milspec. I don't own one, but know a guy on another forum that has one, and he likes it a lot.
It should be great shooter, and the Bell & Carlson stock should work well. Even with low rings, you may need a cheek pad due to the one piece base.
You made a great decision regarding the Timney. I own a couple modern 700s that came with X-Mark Pro triggers, and neither of them would adjust to below 5 pounds, though they were great in all other aspects. They now have Timneys.
Great rifles! I've had a lot of students bring them to my school over the years, every single one shot accurately.
