The M24 was built on the 700 LA receiver, and equipped with a 20 MOA rail topped of with a Leupold 10X40 fixed Mark 4. As noted elsewhere here that was so the USA could uprate it to 300 Mag.

It is a custom build gun from Remington, out of the "M24 Shop", and generally NOT available to the Civilian market.

The LA makes it easier to extend the bullet out to just about touching the lands. The stock ammo they generally put through it is M118LA, a 175 Gr BTHP with around 42 Gr of Re-15. It's limited to COAL because it has to feed through the M-14 mags. Since I don't have that issue, I can seat the bullets a little shallower.

This is by no means a light gun to lug around!

IIRC they make sure that the kit is complete and then test fire them before shipping them out.

Correct scope would be a 10X Leupold M3A but you can use whatever, you will want very low rings though as it doesn't have a cheek riser.

I am speaking for myself as well as many other when I say you will get another itch. Yes the HD might scratch it for awhile but it will happen. This is a good thing BTW. Can't wait to see it glassed up and a range report.

John,

The 20 MOA rail and #8-40 screws will be here Wednesday. I have a set of rings I'll throw on until I get the right ones.

I also ordered a scope lapping bar and cheek pad for it. I've got 4 rifles that need or have Leupold Mk 4's on them scoops so I deiced to jut get the lapping gear and do it right.

I have a couple of boxes of FGMM ammo handy so I'll do the initial testing with them, and roll my own later.

Tonight I'm going to pull it apart and see if the recoil lug is bedded. If not, that will be another step, but I'm thinkin it will be.

I would be willing to bet it's already bedded, that's a fine looking rifle. Ask nf1e what he feeds his rifle he could give you a damn fine place to start I'm positive of that. And yes if your spending that much $ lapping them is a smart move!
