AR50-A1

At the 2016 Camp Perry summer fun I bought a raffle ticket for a chance on a number of rifles. Well I got the "Grand Prize" an Armalite AR50-A1. So this "free" rifle has cost me plenty so far... new scope & rings, bi-pod, reloading press plus accessories big enough to handle the massive 50BMG, and the start of a stockpile of reloading components.

I should have known better than taking the rifle, my last 50 cal I got rid of because the IRS wouldn't let me claim it as a dependent. The darn thing is fun to shoot, and with the use of "Pulled" powder & bullets and a "source" for brass, I can punch out a round for less than $1.50

Good squirrel gun.

Do you need hearing protection with that?

I guess if you didn't use hearing protection for the first shot there wouldn't be any point in wearing it for the rest....

Thanks from charlie98 and Dougboffl

What gets me is not that fact you won the gun, but you have to post a photo while in a short sleeved shirt in January.

That's a heck of a piece of metal you have hanging off the end of that barrel.

I don't think it would be that pleasurable to shoot without it. Lol

With the scope, scope mounts, bipod, and 1 round of ammo that thing just tips the scale at 40lbs. That makes it almost qualify to be a "Crew Served" weapon.

The safest place to be when that thing goes off is directly behind the guy pulling the trigger. It's definitely a "belt and suspenders" (Ear Plugs & Muffs) operation. Also right before pulling the trigger I find it helps if you open your mouth just a bit, this allows the concussion to not "dead end" in your sinuses.

The AR50 can be pretty accurate with good loads, I have seen plenty of guys shooting Screamer's with them out of the box. I have a Steyr HS50 which is about the same as the the Armalite but only weighs 29 pounds. Did you get the accessory pack that came with the gun, they used to include ear plugs and aspirin! make sure to wear plugs and muffs if you don't want a headache after shooting 60 rounds a day, I fired 1 round with no hearing protection once, ONCE! I thought the gun had exploded! my right ear rang for a week and I think it did some minor hearing damage. I am a moderator on the FCSA Members only forum there is a ton of valuable info over there but you have join the Fifty Caliber Shooters Association, Its a lot of fun shooting at 1000yds.
