It is actually quite genious how the bolt works. I am not good at explaining things, but if you google, you will find a vid showing how it works.

Also, do a safety check on the bolt.

If you see any type of hairline cracks on the interrupter lug, investigate further till you are satisfied.

Awards Showcase

That's a great looking rifle. K31s are nice shooters. Enjoy!

Uh, that's an M96 in 6.5x55, not an M98(typo?). They are getting hard to find and price has gone up since I bought mine for $200. Great guns and easy on the shoulder.

Thanks from M11293

Not to be confused with the 1889 Schmidt-Rubin with it's design for black powder loads therefore you can't shoot the modern 7.5 Swiss in it like the K31.

Yes, M96, not M98. My bad.

And I see no damage or hairlines on the interrupter lug.

Nice looking rifle....these links might be helpful..You can find the original recipe for finishing the stock with the first link. If you decide to go that route, the last link should have the necessary supplies.

Don't those K-31's have some stout recoil?

Not sure. I have heard mixed opinions on recoil and K31s. I will make a range report this weekend.

Now you just need to pick up a Gew 96/11, Gew 11, K00/11, K05/11, K11, ZfK31/43 and a ZfK 55.

Good thing about the Swiss military rifles, gear, etc. when was the last time Switzerland was involved in an all out war?? Training purposes would be the only time the firearms were actually fired to any extent. Excellent rifle in all respects.

No sir. Recoil is on par with any 308 bolt gun. Slightly less than 03 imo.

Went out to my friend's place yesterday. So much fun. He made a bunch of steel targets. I was shooting a 30" steel plate of 3/4" thick steel at 300 meters consistently with open sights via the K31. I only missed the target once, but by the time we got around to the K31, we were very low on light. At 50 meters, I shot some decent groups despite the low light. But wow does 7.5 Swiss do a number on 3/4" steel! Huge dents -likely 1/8" of steel removed from the surface. The smacking sound of the 7.5 Swiss hitting steel at 300 meters was impressive. On steel, 22 LR is to 300 Blackout as 300 Blackout is to 7.5 Swiss.

Recoil was similar to a 308 bolt rifle. Not bad, but more than my M1A (bolt vs gas system).

The accuracy of the K31 is impressive. I think I will put a scope on her as I just picked up a Vortex Viper 3.5-10 50mm. Not sure if I will move my Leupy (40 mm) from my M1A to the K31.

Do 308 bore sights work for 7.5 Swiss?
